This was a pop and pour. Compared to a bottle decanted several months ago, this worked out ok. A smooth flashy dense CDP without much tertiary elements. Nice enough and certainly not worth the $80+.

A bit hot. Quite smooth. A little bit pruney. For my tastes, this wine was much more appealing when young, bright and vivacious. Sadly, that's probably the case with a lot of us as well.

This is in a very weird place right now. Tasted right after opening and it was unexpressive. Gave it two hours of air and while it improved a bit, it wasn't a pleasure to drink. I don't think it was an issue with the bottle, but I think it is shut down at the moment and needs 5-6 years more in bottle to develop. Note to self, do not open another bottle prior to 2030.

Raisiny, awkwardly bitter, syrupy, try-hard wine. I like the 2006 of this, but while some of the savory nuance still comes through here, it's overshadowed but power and ripeness and I can't get past it.

Decanted one hour before service - seemed about right. In the glass, pink-tinted auburn at the rim, shading to dark magenta-shaded auburn at the core. On the nose, reductive port-like notes, with currants and blackberries underneath. On the palate, more port and prune notes, but if anything, those accentuated the notes of grenache, blackberries, raspberries, and bacon lurking in the background. 2ème bouteille. La première bue en juin 2020 était clairement trop jeune. Cette fois ouverture à 15:00, épaulée et début de la dégustation à 20:30 avec des racks d’agneau. Il y a beaucoup de matière et cela commence à se mettre en place. Le fruit est présent avec une belle complexité. En tous les cas pas besoin de se presser. Devrait encore progresser.

Deep transparent red, showing signs of maturity --- Nose fresh, elegant, light, flowery, sour cherry, walnut, some tobacco smoke, a little glue, mahogany, orange peel, some mint aspects, some marzipan, black and green tea --- Palate smooth, like velvet, then strong cherry fruit accompanied by powerful acidity, chewy --- Finishes pretty long on red and black fruit and minerality. First pour after about 3 hours in the decanter came across as full bodied, a bit rustic, and very syrah. Another hour plus in the decanter brought the wine into better balance, as it became smoother, the structure present but not pronounced, a wonderful mouth-feel and lingering finish. A very good, highly rated 2004 Cal cab next to it suddenly seemed coarse and clumsy by comparison. Wine of the night against same very respectable offerings. 94-95ish.

On PnP, at 59F, it's everything I like about a good wine from the 'doc - earthy, garrigue, scorched earth, herbs, etc. But the party is short-lived as it warms toward 65F in the glass. About 30 min decant. Nose of very ripe, warm fruit, smoke, herbs and some spice. A bit agressive with some volatility to it. On the palate a bit harsh and rough. Now, the aromas offer quite a bit of rotting plum notes, graphite, tobacco, tomato, and some other odd minerality. 3 hour decant, not enough. 2 hours additional decant, still not enough or there is nothing in the wine that will come out. Very dark, funky, licorice, meaty, huge tannins, lots of alcohol, dirty, olive. This is too young and I am skeptical that it will ever be a good wine. If scored based on the taste today, 79.

Dark ruby red. The bouquet is still a bit reticent, but there are some good dark cherries and herbs and spices. On the palate dark cherries, pleasant acidity, soft tannin and some heat from the alcohol. Concentrated and full bodied, easy going wine because of the soft tannin and sweetness. Ready now and this can easily last until 2015, although I am not sure it will really improve with more ageing.

Interesting wine. It was good but not great at the start. Blame myself for not decanting ahead of time. It gained a lot of weight and aroma with air. Had some sour cherry, some leafy parts, and got meatier over time. I picked up a little funk--brett?--that I liked. I'm tempted to buy another bottle and give it some more time, if I can find one.
