2014 Halcon Vineyard Syrah (San Francisco) : Nice nose with notes of savory, olives, dark cherries, a hint of smoke, and earth. Quite refined on the palate with very smooth tannins, good acidity, and flavors of violets, dark cherries, and more olive / savory notes. Nice finish. Slightly bigger wine compared to the rest but feels a bit more "classic Syrah" to me. My one criticism may be that it's a tad too polished.

It’s been 8 years since I first tasted this wine and honestly it is really hitting its stride right now. I popped this a week ago when we raided my cellar after an offline. The last 3rd of the bottle sat in my cellar under a cork. I remembered it today and hoped for the best. Holy shit! The nose has softened over the years giving noted of olives, blueberry, violets, bacon a touch of leather. First sip reveals a …

Pop and pour. Dark purple color. Wonderful nose of black cherry, blueberriea, some beef blood and herbal note suggesting cool climate and some whole cluster. Good dark fruit with bright acidity. Touch of menthol with the dark fruit notes. Fresh and lively finish. 12.4% abv Quality cork branded with phone # and p mark.

Aerated with a Vinturi and decanted for 30 minutes. Nose of blackberry, black olive, black plum, licorice and spice. Ripe black fruit, olive tapenade, chocolate and spice on the palate. Long finish. Full bodied. Served with roast pork tenderloin.

Very big Syrah that needs a 2+ hour decant to show its stuff. After a lot of air, black pepper, olive, bacon....very Northern Rhone and tasty.

Such a Mike Smith wine - large, almost huge in scale and full throttle on the flavor-meter. It has freshness and savoriness in spades though, so it never tips over into top-heavy CA syrah syndrome. Blackberry liquor and spice on the nose, with a bit of heat. On the palate it's luscious but wild, stemmy to the max, black cherry, macerated strawberries, candied violets, olives and grapefruit zest. Medium bodied, but rich velvety texture. Friendly tannins and ready to drink …

First day overwhelmed with smoke second day it blew off and was left with nice fruit. Not over the top Cali style

Pnp, no decant. Drank over 2-3 hours. Completely different than my previous bottle back in Dec 2018. Back then I noted that it was too flowery and perfumed for me, this bottle had no flowers or perfume, or even fruit for that matter - nothing here but overpowering smoked, BBQ’d meat. Not a big fan, but didn’t stop me from finishing the bottle

Drank from decanter during Sunday football. Too flowery and perfumed for me. Much preferred the 2013 Myriad Sugarloaf that we opened after this one.

Deepest purple hue...right off the bat I experienced a Smokey character like never before...almost campfire level..flavor brings a strong berry note to the smoke creating a very complex enjoyable finish...such an interesting delicious Syrah... I have been a bit critical Of other myriad Syrahs but this delivers in spades!! Delicious...I just nailed the nose...it’s warm bacon salad dressing nose on a spinach salad!! WOW

Pop and pour and tasted without food. Dark puzrple color. Nose of black cherry, some smoke and cured meats. Wonderful floral element on the intro, with good dark fruits and that smokey woodsy notes. Interesting and delicious. The smoky element does not overpower the wine as there is sufficient fruit to balance the wine. Tasted the following day after having poured half the bottle into a 375ml bottle and re-corked. Still lively and fresh with dark cherry fruits and an …

Dark purple with a red tinge. Nose of hoisin and soy sauce with black and red berries. This was another delightful bottle. Plenty of depth, complexity, and mouthfeel for anyone to enjoy. This had a lot of bacon fat, and smoked meat elements. Took me back to last summer's Cote Rotie trip... This really hit all of the notes and I'm kicking myself for not buying more last go 'round. Next time I won't make that mistake.

Huge nose of smoke and campfire. I like this characteristic more than most, but this was overpowering initially. Dark luscious berries and pit fruit on the palate. Sappy red fruit and smoked herbs really made up the bulk of the notes in this wine.

Pop and pour and tasted out of a plastic cup at a corn roast. Dark purple color. Bright. Nose shows some spice and dark cherries. Good acidity that keeps the wine lively. Fresh black fruits.

Extremely hiigh-toned, infantile, primary, and almost impossible to rate given the time allowed for this to try to open up. Decanted in a wide-bottomed decanter for over three hours. It barely budged. It was nowhere enough time; it seemed like it was eons away from becoming anything even remotely accessible for at least a couple of years. This of course is my fault for popping this too early, but I was really surprised at how standoff-ish this bugger was even …

Plopped this guy into the decanter for about 6 hours. Drank over 3 hours. Very purple, but not super dense. Pretty lean and lithe on the palate. Cool dark fruit. Lots of minerality, and gamey iron notes. Not a monster by any stretch - more subtle. Medium + finish. Should improve with some time. Maybe not my favorite Myriad or Quivet syrah, but still very tasty.

Slow ox for 2 hours and consumed over 2 more. Very meaty nose. Blue fruits galore here. Nice density and mouthfeel followed by a long finish. Clearly too young, but the flavors are there. Noticeable oak influence but not a monster. Tannins in check and only noticeable on the last glass. Drink now or hold...wish I had more.

Delicious, waiting 12-18 months will reward you with a more mature, better integrated bottle.

Gave this about 4 hours of slow ox, then into decanter for another 10 hours. Drank alongside a '14 Quivet Las Madres (Hulda). This was the "frutier" of the two, but in no sense a fruit bomb - just less of the smokey/gamey qualities of the Quivet. Deep, dark purple. Medium + weight with some real liveliness on the palate. Finish was smoother than the Quivet right now. Would also note that the Myriad was in a big "wide bottomed" …

Pre-release look at and a much anticipated taste. I feel a special connection to this wine as it was at a Syrah night at my home where Paul and Mike met and this marriage of vineyard and winemaker was born. First off I have to comment on the color. The color purple is envious of this wine. I don't ever remember a Syrah with this deep purple hue. The color extraction is unreal. I have had this open for three …
