{screwcap, 14.5%} Deep ruby. Intense nose, largely of crushed ants/formic acid. This eventually blows off (or you acclimatise!) to give some black fruit, cola, and hint of prume. The palate has a lot of jammy black fruit, with a blueberry tint, not too oaky, with medium acid, sweet fruit, a slightly artificial feel - like it was made up of parts assembled somewhere. The palate is a bit holloow and simple overall. Vanilla comes through after a while. Medium weight …

Average commercial level quality of Barossa shiraz. Upfront but not intensive enough. Plum, meaty. Lower filtering, MLF, open barrel fermented. Finish is not long

NobleRottersSydney - <>A$40 blind (Fix, St James, Sydney) : {screwcap, 14.5%} [DavidH] Blind note. Developing nose. Big, jammy, fruit-sweet with blackberries and yummy oak richness. Very sweet fruit on the palate, with a purple/violet character to add to the blackberry and chocolate. Lowish acidity, medium powdery tannins, medium/full weight. Medium length finish. I don’t remember any of the Options questions but it’s a pretty obvious character. Think the current vintage is still sub-$40.

Blackberry, blueberry, vanilla and pepper on the nose. Palate was similar with slight hint of smokiness that became dark chocolate. Incredible balance. Medium finish.

This wine has demonstrated my consistent belief that Elderton Estate wines mature beautifully with careful cellaring. A fantastic example of aged Barossa shiraz.

It’s a big wine. Not usually my thing but I enjoyed it. Dark dark fruit, vanilla/oak almost thick like but I liked it. The best on day three and probably could have taken it further.

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) fairly quickly met by astringent pucker which only somewhat resolves by the LONG finish with a tangy/swtness to the still notable dusty tannins. Deep brambly plum with some pepper and smoky herbs. Nice amount of oak vanilla with just the smallest hint of cool damp leaf character. The palate is a little bit hotter and jammier than the nose, but not overbearing. The deep plum notes continue along with a definitely brighter red currant liqueur quality, and although the finish could be more intense it is definitely long and spicy. After some hours the explosive plum on the palate doubles!

Tasted blind. Clear, deep ruby with purple hues. Heavy extraction and tears. The nose is clean, with medium (+) to high intensity, with ripe black fruit, blueberries, candied cherry, mint, smoke, tar, vanilla and baking spices from American oak. The nose is developing. The palate is dry, consistent with the nose, with medium (+) acidity and tannins. The alcohol is high at 14.5%. This is a full-bodied wine with medium (+) flavor intensity and length. It is drinking well now …

Nose of oak, vanilla, dill, coconut, clove, baking spice. Ripe red and black fruits, ripe cherry, blueberry, raspberry. Coffee, chocolate, mon cheri candy. roast meat. Palate is similar to the nose but the oak comes of a lot sweeter, coffee, chocolate, sweet cherry liqueur. Fruit bomb, too much of a blueberry milkshake for me. Ok acid, soft tannins. More structure would have been nice.

PnP, fill and cork in vg condition. Medium garnet core, faded to the light garnet rim. Top notes of blackberry, raspberry and cassis at first, but the lovely aromas faded quickly and required coaxing thereafter. The medium-bodied, fully mature palate confirmed what the nose suggested - the the best days have already come and gone. Tannins and acids in top form, the fruit though, seems not have had the same stuffing. I saved 1/2 the bottle in the fridge for …

Decanted for 1,5 hour. Lovely on the nose with spices, chocolate and ripe berries. On the palate this is full bodied, round, elegant with smooth tannins. I was expecting for a sweet super ripe fruit bomb Aussie, but instead I found a very classy and refined wine made to pair with food. Very well made...perfect combination between ripe fruit extraction and acidity. Recommended!

Opened tonight in honor of the start of the Aussie Tennis Grand Slam in Melbourne. Tennis! Cloudy and dark maroon. Nose of ripe dark cherry and plum, some vanilla. Plum, and dark tart cherry on the palate, very very fruit infused, with moderate aged tannins on the finish. This is way ready, no more aging. Nice, ripe, fruit forward. Great purchase from Los Olivos.

Made with fruit sourced from the Elderton Vineyard on the banks of the North Para River, this Barossa Shiraz is aged in French and American oak for just over 12 months. In traditional Barossa style, it's an upfront fruit bomb, but has a little more sophistication than most. Dark cherry red in colour I found baked plum, blackberry pie and vanilla on the nose. This is very nice. Had me rethinking (just momentarily) my prohibition against buying anything else from Australia. Not as hot or jammy as the Command single vineyard shirazes. I like this one alot more than those. Far better balanced, nice rich fruit, a bit of chocolate, full mouth feel.
