Horsepower, Sur Echalas Vineyard Syrah, Walla Walla Valley

Wow. Distinct, earthy, leathery - and everything else that's been previously said below. I can attest it's drinking amazingly well now, but my guess is that it has another decade in it. An hour of decanting is needed, but I had fun tracking it for another two hours. A gem of a wine!

P&P; final bottle. Rich red and black fruit, tar, leather, maybe a bit of barnyard in there (at first). There is a sweetness here lurking behind the savory that makes this wine so unique and delicious...I just love it! Still lots of runway on this, but it's drinking great right now.

The most striking wine one can imagine. Totally alien compared to the typical terrain that we are accustomed to when drinking wine. Most people dislike the first taste. Then somewhere around the 2nd to 5th they start to get curious. And by the 10th there are immersed in layers of umami and leather and funk and earth that make no sense but are totally presence inducing.

Another excellent HP wine with the typical profile. Rocks funk, savory, roasted olives, meat, licorice, herbs, salt. A good amount of black fruit, blackberries on this as well. Silky texture.

If you were used to drinking really fruity straightforward simple red wine, the carafe house wine at a solid Italian restaurant, you may refuse to finish your glass. One of the most complex wines I’ve ever tasted. Smells pungent with essence of fresh fall fruits and vegetables. Opened 3 hours before drinking, which made a positive difference in the wine. Black raspberry, olive, blood, espresso, iodine, barnyard, and a saline finish. Unmistakeable Rocks funk. Gorgeous and generous with immaculate structure. No rush to drink these, and no problem drinking now with some air.

Third time tasting in the past year. Tasted with 2014 Reynvaan Foothills and Stonessence, both great, but this was even better. Opened two hours before pouring, still had some the second night. Decanted for an hour in the Recanter, then back into the bottle for service. Massive wine, very complex and savory with an underlying sweet fruit component. Really nice and a pleasure to drink. Was even better on day 2, so maybe a longer decant if you pop one soon. Drink now with air - 2034+.

Decanted this twine more than 24 hours before serving. This was better than some of the other Horsepower Syrahs I've opened. It has a lot of the Cayuse funk but didn't have any of the other off-putting flavors. I am sure this will appeal to those seeking this style. It's not my cup of tea so I am probably not a great review resource.

A touch stinky on the nose (which is a good thing). Dark and dense, a bit spicy on the finish. Unique flavor on the palate unlike anything from France or even California. Not my style.

The nose is absolutely insane and it melds with a medium bodied, rich palate and a concentrated finish. Smoke, blackberry, oil, black licorice, a bit of leather, a hint of menthol and dark chocolate. This is not a wine for wimps.

ESTG pandemic breaker : This was a tough gearshift from the starters for me. Very, very Cayuse on the nose, very animal Syrah in that reductive way. The palate is dark, intense, smoky, but actually surprisingly light and energetic.

Oh baby this stuff is electric. Elegance and power wrapped up in one gorgeous package. Super bright cranberry and strawberries. Slightly wild but done damn perfectly. Love this. Tannin is soft but supple and the acid is alive. No idea how this wili age but who cares when it's drinking so stunningly right now. Two thumbs way up!
