St Urbans Hof, Estate Old Vines Riesling, Mosel

Cool, crisp and floral notes with a fruity aeration and an inherently smooth finish. A little young, but overall a fantastic Riesling at a fair price point. Purchased for a refreshing post snowshoe drink.

2018 vintage

My last bottle shows a medium yellow colour, which is encouraging given its age and station. Bruised apple on the nose, like the bottle noted over four years ago, but nothing beyond that. While still concentrated, this has lost a good deal of its freshness and now seems a bit weak at the knees. Good plus, though.

Had a quick glass. Amazing. Complex and precise. Touch of sweetness followed by laser fresh acidity. Should have loaded up on close out.

Excellent Reisling at a great price. Not bad for what is labeled a house wine. Medium straw color. Dry. Medium body and high acidity. Low alcohol content. Scent of jasmine. Citrus taste like pineapple. Nice, mouth watering finish.

white fruits, tangy, good acidity. Tart finish. Solid Riesling didn't blow me away.

Pale lemon colour. Medium and youthful nose with green apples, lemon, honeysuckle, white peach, wet stone and petroleum. Medium taste of green apples, ripe lime, white peach, peach, honeysuckle and schiefer. Long and off-dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. A very good off-dry Riesling with good concentration. Drink now or over the next five years. Goes well with sushi or spicy food.

Golden. Delicious, quite sweet, smooth. Some minerals. Slightest tart, sweeter than tart, underripe apricots, very drinkable. Perfect as a celebration with Chinese food on Christmas. Loved it.

White raisin, bright petrol. On the palate blood orange peel, more petrol, and apricot. Medium plus acid, slight residual sugar.

Light shiny yellow. Pear lychee subtle nose. Relatively full bodied. High acidity. Low alcohol and just enough tannins. It definitely has some sugar and makes a great pairing with spicy food. The palate is honey, pear, peach, full and acidic. Good food wine.

Classic petrol note on the nose. Has a very slick, almost unctuous mouthfeel. Medium acidity joins with pineapple, golden delicious apple, a touch of coconut, and more petrol for a sweet, lively, easy-to-like experience on the palate.

2018 vintage

Both cork and level are very good. Yellowish to pale yellow colour. The nose is modest to begin, but builds slowly to show slightly bruised apple, followed by camphor ahead of older yellow fruit drizzled with a little honey and wax. Impressively concentrated for a generic Mosel. The weighty and fresh mouth is nicely balanced. Very good plus and should hold at this level for a few more years at least.

Light gold color. On nose, petrol, pear, lemon. On palate, full body with similar flavor profile to nose (ex petrol) but with some nice minerality - full body, medium+ acids and long finish. Very enjoyable and will buy some more current vintages. 91+/- Has aged extremely well.

Light yellow color. I smell canned peaches, key lime pie and papaya, with honey and sea salt. Juicy texture on the palate, sweetness is woven in well with medium acidity. Flavors of orange, papaya and peaches mix well with honey, clover, and some slight mineral, chalky tones. Fun, accessible, fan-friendly Riesling.

This continues to be a fine QPR, especially when purchased below $12. A solid performer, but lacks complexity and extra dimensions to take it up another level. Pear, apple, and flowers. While there is the residual sugar typical of all riesling, it is finished in a firmly dry, cabinet style that makes it food friendly.

One of my all-time favorites in terms of QPR. Although peaches, potato peel, swimming pool, tooth paste, burnt match and lemonade do not sound like they would ever join in a dance, I'm pretty sure they will in this wine in 1-5 yrs. It's already quite interesting, but you should wait at least till summer 2013. From then on this wine will be heading for 90-91.

- Yellow color with fast forming legs and aromas of grapefruit and pineapple. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apple and apricot with a light/medium body. Linear texture with a medium finish.

Light gold, aromas of peach and apricot. Effervescent acidity and a long enough finish likely from the fact that its from the mosel. For the price? Fantastic. A drier riesling made in the traditional and beautiful German style...not too dry. I was very impressed by this one given the price (under $15).
