Stewed fruit from hot vintage. Hasn’t held up well. Throwing tons of sediment.

Surprisingly spry. Needed to decant. Still plenty of life left in this wine. Mocha, cherry, fresh and dried herbs.

Medium bodied. Plum and dark cherries, with black pepper spice. Nice smooth wine. Needs to breathe. Tasting blind I would've never thought Syrah. Perfect with hearty pasta or beef dishes. Picked it up for $15 but I see it going in the $30-40 range. I would expect more at that price, but works great at $15. Will pick up more if they don't change the price.

2014 Italian Wine Tasting Event (Allesia's Ristorante Italiano - Mesa, AZ) : This Syrah is all wrong. No mouth-feel, poor structure, very light and the fruit is all red. It doesn't work as a cool-climate Syrah either. This doesn't fit into any category of Syrah I have tasted. I am told Wine Enthusiast gave this a 90. Whoa there, this is so NOT varietally correct for a 100% Syrah.

Dark purple red at the eye. Alcohol (15°) very evident at the nose while opening the bottle and after while decanting, with some serious oak. Juicy and concentrated currant, blueberry. Dark fruit, smoky, coffee, soft tannins. However the sensation is that alcohol is overwhelming and leaves little room to all the rest

I do not think is a great expression for the syrah. The terroir of Italy does not contribute to this varietal as much as in Australia and Rhone, France for example.

Color: Brown at the rim but still dark at the core. Sign of medium to full bodied wine. On the nose: Alcohol lead the way, follow by flowery and blackberry taste and scent of sweetness right away from cork opening. Shows the sign of aged wine and ready to drink immediately right after the cork has been drew. Oak not obvious. On palate and finished: tannins is very smooth and velvety. It's very complex. Catch a taste of sweetness, but …

Black, with some serious oak, coconut, chocolate nose. Juicy and concentrated currant, blueberry. Internationally styled palate; dark fruit, floral, smoky, coffee, soft tannins. Really enjoyable but do we need another place making big Merlot that lacks soul?

nice nose , but I find it too much powerful in the palate. Needs to be drink while you are eating something tasty. Anyway it's a nice bottle for the price you pay

Dark colour with noticeable browning at the rim. Fruit and chocolate nose. The palate is rich and powerful but friendly. Some spiciness, and a slightly raisined quality. Tannic. After 2-3 hours this gets better, losing some of the warmth. It gains notes of tobacco and olives. Surprisingly good in the end.

Plain and dull, some maderized notes on the second day (overnight in refrigerator) and not much else. Tanzer's folks really missed on tis one.

Vanilla, raspberry and ash and pebble combine in a lush midpalate, but slightly dull finish with fine tannins. There seems to be a slight medicinal note throughout, and while pleasing enough, the finish lacks sufficient lift to score it higher.

Good QPR @ $12. At opening, a bit meaty on the nose, quickly morphs into minty wood tones. Red cherry and wood on the palate. Initial dose of tannins surprisingly disappears. Medium bodied, red cherry fruit with a tolerable amount of oak, finishes sweet and smooth, perhaps a tad short. Relatively well behaved relative to other Italian merlots I've had. Update - after 3 hours, the tannins reappear in a significant way, suggesting more aging potential than I originally thought.

Not much in the way of a nose, this wine was pretty tight on entry. About 2 hours later it opened some to reveal chocalate, date/fig and dark fruit nuances. Virtually no tannin impact making me wonder how much skin contact this juice had. The deep, dark garnet color is really in opposition to the tannin level, one look and you expect much more than you get. Overall, I thought it was a pretty boring wine. I would not rebuy …

Dark garnet in appearance. Sour cherry, plum, cassis, chocolate and some tar on the nose. Plenty of tannins but also lots of fruit up front with a touch of alcoholic heat on the finish. Will keep my remaining bottle for a few years before returning to this one.

This wine only jumped from 'good' to 'very good' because of its complexity. It's rich, chocolaty, and laced with soft tannins, but it's a bit too rich with oak and vanilla for me to take it very seriously. Seems like wine for folks who don't really like wine. Am I cantakerous? Maybe, but please give me wine that shows just a bit of finesse and I'll pipe down.

Dark ruby red. Nose of smoke, blackcurrants & plums. Medium to full tannins, good mouth full of blackcurrants, treacle and some spice on the finish. Not mindblowing stuff but reasonably good.

Merlot and Terroir (AIS, Rome) : Merlot 100% Dark red core, ruby rim. Nose: Oak, not much else to start; developed nicely in glass Palate: More going on; dark fruits, prunes, oak, roasted character; sweet sensation which could be a trace of residual sugar; high alcohol (14.5%), good acidity, rich tannins (12 months in barrique). Overall: Rich without being over the top, and nicely balanced for a hot climate wine in a very hot vintage. I like it, and it …

Aged for 12 months in Alliers oak. Very blueberry nose with lots of vanilla. Impressive, but deep down it's only a basic merlot. Very Good.
