Heymann-Lowenstein, Riesling Schieferterrassen, Mosel

PnP over three hours out of a Gabriel Glas. Really starting to hit its stride. Mineral first, followed closely by lemon, and apple pith. Acid freshness segues right back to a nickel laden finish. Every bottle I opened before now was less compelling than this one. Super stellar at the moment. (and this is a “root” day) Drink now or hold.

Laser like intensity coming to the fore.really beginning to open back up and hit its stride. Wait till 2025 at least for the next one.

Today this wine is fairly tight and linear. It’s lean, lemon and mineral driven, with a long and persistent nickel finish. Dry, lean and tight. Self— Today’s experience says don’t open another until 2025 at the earliest.

PnP Mondavi Chardonnay glass A pale lemon hay color, pronounced nose of petrol, lemon, mineral and apple skins. Lemon rind, lime, and apricot, rocky minerals, and smoky petrol notes crash around the mouth like turbulent waves breaking in a rocky shore. Vibrant and moderately rich with plenty of acid, this wine is overtly complex and has a long mineral driven finish. Drink now and easily over the next decade.

Hats of to this one; served in the middle of a (dis)array of wines, this really held it's own with it's clear cut, chalky terroir-character and eminent balance. A lot fruit here as well, good core as well as backbone. From Ejnar. #Kandestederne

Pronounced more, rich citrus (lemon rind, grapefruit) with notable petrol notes. Some smoke too. On the palate, surprisingly rounded, matching the richness of the nose. More noticeable stone fruit, nectarine notes. Slightly disappointing finish though as the flavours seem to taper off quicker than expected. Also, I wonder if it lacks a bit of acidity and tension. Still very pleasant and versatile wine.

Heymann-Löwenstein tasting #2 - Much rounder and slightly more body than the F from the same house. More concentrated and a bit less acidity (still high, but not ultra high). Pronounced aromas of peach, bit of petrol, floral tones (violets), touch of beeswax, honey. Medium- bodied, high acidity, white peach, tangerine, lemon zest, flint, touch of orange zest. So much around the Mosel and never had a Heymann-Löwenstein... shame. Not quite ready yet, needs time. I'd say at least a year. However already today this is beautiful. Close to bone dry I'd say, nevertheless it has a strong minerality paired with an aristocratic touch that makes it hard to stop. Surely not for beginners though, this is for knowledgable riesling-holics, with knowledge.

Perfil olfativo muy atractivo, con notas frescas de albahaca en primer plano, acompañadas de toques de fruta con hueso madura y un fondo mineral. Algún matiz tostado. En boca es atractivo, con cierta untuosidad, bien de acidez, con bastante fruta madura, largo y bien definido. Es una mezcla de riesling de las diferentes parcelas de Winningen.

Pretty interesting taste I never had before of a Riesling. Smoky nose but balanced with fruit and flower. In the glass wonderful light golden colour. On the palate also very unique taste of smoke, fruit (ananas, grapefruit, mango), floral notes and minerality. Pretty complex. The acidity is there but not as "sharp" as dry Riesling used to be. Retailer tasting (@ GT in R) : The bouquet is smoky with a lot of minerals and flowers. On the palate a full bodied and concentrated wine with flowers and good candy flavors, a touch of sweetness nicely balanced by a firm dose of good and fresh acidity. Beautiful wine for now and the next 4+ years.

Golden colour, showing a ripe, aged riesling with a potpourri of exotic fruit aromas. On the palate almost a bit oily with a nice hint of petrol; ripe and dense exotic fruits again, moderate sweetness, persistent finish. Still good, but drink up and hold no longer...

From magnum. Drank next to the 2011. More depth and focus here with the higher acidity adding a layer of complexity. Intensely mineral, great finish, fresh. I would keep this for a bit longer. 89-90+

Light yellow colour with bright golden edge, showing very good aging. Some complex nose showing good character of an aged wines with leather, sweet caramel and toastiness. Round and supple, good weight, some oily structure, hints of sweetness on the attack, with some melon flavour and ends with a clean finish.

One of the best, perhaps THE best value when it comes to dry Mosel Riesling expressing the unique schistous character of the "Terrassen"-Mosel.
