Just like an earlier bottle......OK and in line with the price point. However, definitely not up to a higher WS rating. Since all of the tasters of this wine have posted more or less the same ratings, it would seem the wine is what it is and was not hurt during shipping.

Opens with soft tropical fruit and baked pear—like the sweet side of a pineapple tamal—but the texture turns limp fast. Mid-palate folds quicker than a soggy quesadilla, and the finish? Dry, bitter, and chalky, like someone scraped lime zest over the wrong kind of mole. Chalone's 2022 Estate Chardonnay was aged for nine months in French oak barriques (33% new). Light golden in color, it offers an aromatic profile of baked apples, clementines, yellow peaches, tropical fruit and honey. Medium-bodied, medium in acidity, proportionately oaked and with well-integrated alcohol (14.8%), it offers ripe flavors that mirror the nose. There's nothing wrong with this wine. It's just light, quaffable, an easy drinker. My issue - this is a $15 chard, not the $23 (which was discounted) I paid. I have 2 more, so will see if it evolves with time.

I want to like this wine more than I did tonight... But a wine I used to love is simply quaffable. Sea Bass for dinner with a roasted tomato based sauce. Grilled vegetables. Straw yellow color. Moderate legs. Lemon & lime nose… A touch of wet rocks? Balanced entry with the mineral profile that I enjoy. Just whisps of butter & oak, but the finish felt all over the place. Moderate acidity. I was disappointed in this bottle......especially in light of the WS rating of 92. I usually find their ratings to usually be on the mark. The other reviews posted are consistent with my notes. It was on the dry side with not a lot going on.

Good as a table wine. No real distinct flavors but clearly a Chardonnay. Lychee/apple combo?....maybe. Has good viscosity. Hopeful that I will find an old school Michaud-made Chalone Chardonnay someday....pineapple and oak, yum. But this isn't it. When Rombauer sells out and you have the grapes to make that wine with such a following.... why wouldn't you?

($22) Delicious Chardonnay with wonderful concentration and balance. Competent use of wood that paces the pear and tropical fruit nicely.

With K at home at dinner (crab Genovese). Deep golden straw color. Looks rich, viscous, good legs. Nose buttery, fairly rich. In the mouth, good body, with coconut flavors. Lighter than I expected. Hint of complexity at the finish. Slightly oaky. 5-10-13-5: 83/100.
