De Forville, Langhe, Nebbiolo

Nose: Dark soil, raspberry coulis. Palate: Ripe grape stems, crisp raspberry with dark, dark cranberry. On day two, the nose takes on a nice dank old strawberry vibe, while the palate has a lot of dark ripe strawberry and a little cayenne and black pepper. Medium ruby color. Nose of red cherry, almond oil, and a touch of piney forest floor. Medium bodied and juicy on the palate with youthful tannins on the finish.

Nose: Dried wood spice, varnish, cedar, sweet blackberries, some sulfur that blows off with time. Palate: Sour red plum, quite a bit of potpourri spice, sandy tannins. On day two, the flavors are much more integrated. The potpourri and red plum take on a nice spiced cranberry flavor. Tannins are more chalky and less sandy. A consistently nice Langhe Nebbiolo at a great price.

Another lovely bottle of this vintage from De Forville. Still way outperforming what I expected. Se my notes from last year. And it still has plenty of room.

This was shockingly good. An incredible display of tar and floral on the nose. I thought I was drinking a particularly good traditional barolo. Palate was rich and a bit of chewiness to it, along with the dark fruit, leather and meat. Had a good bit of acidity to balance and some tannic background. What a deal. Wish I could get more than the few bottles I have.

Medium to light body, prominent tannins, pale color. A pleasant light red. I don't know Italian reds but this seems a promising start. I'm happy with the natural and sustainable production methods they appear to employ.

Entry-level Nebbiolo. Very pale ruby color, somewhat weak but fresh floral nose. Markers of Nebbiolo are not readily recognizable if not for the mouthfeel. High tannins, full bodied, med acid, warming alcohol (14% labeled) strengthened by a spicy bitter finish. Feels a bit diluted despite robustness (elevated yields?). 88 Edit: improved 90 minutes after opening. Nose is still relatively muted but palate now displays some red cherries and plum. Yet I still think the structure overpowers the wine. 89

Best bottle so far with a 3 hour decant. Wine started to open up and gain richness. Now this feels like a baby Barbaresco. Way better than previous pop n pour experiences with this bottling.

Delayed note. I've seen reviewers call nebbiolo "haunting," and that description rings true with this wine. Mellow but memorable. Other purchases of inexpensive Langhe nebbiolo (non-Barolo) have not fared as well.

Initially a bit of funk (reduction?) on the nose that went away with aggressive swirling and a decant to reveal some lovely red fruit and a simple but charming body with good fruit and nice tannin. Drinks well now, very good accompaniment to food. Given this is the entry level Langhe, a continuing reminder that I should really buy more of this producer.

Had no idea what the proper drinking window would be but opened with friends. It was tight as expected on entry but after a half hour, it blossomed into a lovely wine with typical Nebbiolo flavors and a fuller and rounder flavor profile than I expected. We had several bottles of wine open. This one went first.

Light color. Lightly fragrant mix of cherry, licorice and herbs. Light and very approachable-I appreciate the deft handling in that it is not overextracted and tannic at this young age. Pretty wine, eminently drinkable.

Potpourri, baked dusty cherry, loamy minerals, orange peel and baking spice. Medium bodied, grippy, juicy cherry core, bitter herbs, concentration, tart acidity, super grippy/sticky tannins, toasty, lengthy. Classic nebbiolo, aspiring to the next level. (*) (2nd day, was clunky and angular on day 1)
