Marchesi di Barolo Barbaresco Serragrilli

A renowned old school winery with a winemaking history of nearly a century. Entry level Barbaresco, composed of different vineyards from Neive, Barbaresco and Treiso, fermented in steel, aged for 12 months in small Slavonian oak barrels and 12 months in bottle. Intense aroma of cherries, strawberries, undergrowth, hint of mint and eucalyptus. Medium+ body, feels youthfully tense yet already approachable with red berry, herb and smoky flavours, floral nuances, high juicy acidity, tight high tannins.

Some vanilla, red fruits, raspberries, cherries. On the palette there's some hints of licorice?

Had a few bottles last nite at Serafina in TriBeCa with FAD & Mike, visiting from Australia. No decant. Spicy nose of raspberry and red cherries. Medium to light bodied on the palate, lots of red fruit, some currant, spice and dust. Good acidity level, medium, slightly tannic finish.

Al naso profumi poco accentuati ma omogenei di frutti rossi. Al palato acidità un po' in evidenza. Di media persistenza, tannini vellutati, si beve bene con secondi piatti di carne. Un buon Barbaresco che si presta all'invecchiamento.

Decanted for 30 mins (which was probably not enough). Spicy aroma full of cherry, raspberry, and licorice with a light hint of turpentine. Black current, cidar on the tongue. Very tannic with a long pleasant finish on the dry side.

Light Italian, bitter after taste. Light Rhone-esque with more sour notes.

Plum and cherries on the nose. Light bodied. Very delicious.

Nose: cherry, plum, blueberry, light oak, forest Body: medium light Flavor: cherry, forest, leather, very old school Barolo flavor. Drinks older. Medium-heavy tannis Overall phenomenal wine at a reasonable price. While a traditional producer, it drinks great young.

This offers intense red fruit with raspberries and cherry preserve at the forefront together with pungent eucalyptus and menthol. The palate is juicy and fresh owning to the youthful and assertive tannins, making a somewhat rustic yet satisfying wine.

Expected more. Even though an entry level Barbaresco, this lacked complexity and depth in flavor. There's better for this price range.
