Leitz is a magician in making available and yet very complex wines. Maybe it’s that the GGs in slightly less full of acidity when they are young? Anyway the wine balances citrus tones with slight petroleum tones in a complex way. In tge mid to end there is some herbal tones as well. Great wine

Nice wine dinner where all the wines were very good, all are basically in their drinking windows. Numanthia 2013 needed about 1 - 2 hours before it felt fully integrated, very nice Tempranillo from D.O Toro. Phil Lane 2014 from K Vintners was right in the window the best wine of the evening along with Leitz. What a Syrah, ripe notes with lovely blackberries and some meaty notes, green olives. Electric on opening, it settled down after a little while to a bright but sustainable place, with rich, dry peach fruit, sassafras accents, and a little snap of bitterness on the finish that made my mouth water. I admit to missing the glorious Spätlese wines from this site, but I do like what Johannes is doing with the dry wine program.
