Testarossa Syrah Garys' Vineyard

Dark wild berry, flowers, camphor and game, a touch of rubbery asphalt. Gamy mouthful of blackberry, tar. The finish is bright, floral, showing asphalt and a little metallic. Interesting but I do not appreciate the reductive characteristics.

Garys' Vineyard Syrah - Novy & Testarossa Blindtasted (Rich and Peggy's Home in Los Altos, CA) : Group's #6 (my #4) – 68 pts.; 1, 0, 1, 2 – black fruit and strong savory meaty, thyme nose; big, tart black fruit, white pepper, high alcohol but not as hot as others; medium finish

Popped and poured. Started nice with a strong black olive note combined with deep, dark berry. After an hour or so a skunky, floral aroma emerged along with a pleasing mineral edge. Unfortunately a tart, rubbery flavor also developed, particularly on the finish. I suspect that 3-4 hours of decanting may reveal a good wine.
