Today the 14 Chard. For another day: the 14 Venus and 14 Moriah Syrah. This wine is in the wheelhouse but I think the 15 outpaces it a bit (and this one is a solid 95, so whadduzzatellya?). Juicy yellow fruit core, lychee, pear, lemon pie, herbs. Good acidity up front but mostly a very smooth, rounded texture and mouthfeel. This rich and buttery Chardonnay is drinking fine right now, but it lacks the depth, energy, or tension to be a compelling wine. Instead, it tastes a bit flabby (i.e., too much oak, not enough acidity) and a little flat (i.e., not enough fruit, a little too oily). I had a similar impression of Donelan�s Nancie Chardonnay earlier this year, so I think style might just not be for me - very nice people, but I haven�t liked the wines …
