Tried to branch out beyond my usual comfort zone of Piedmont or Campania. Ultimately, I didn’t really get the strong sense of place as usual in Italy, but still an objectively solid wine. Immediately struck with the uncanny resemblance to a mid-tier Napa Cab. Unmistakable nose of cassis, blueberry, menthol all around a core of espresso, chocolate and caramel from the oak. First tasted at Del Posto (98 vintage) and loved it for fresh fruit, mineral, pleasant tannins and a wondeful oily silk body. From a region best known for white wine and grappa Porphyr is must taste. This is a great example of the rewards of exploring new regions.
