A good vintage of a WS Kabinett is like a Gary Oldman performance - simply effortless. As is the case here. With a color as clear as spring water this delivers its youthful orchard fruits with a quiet but affective delivery. I found I liked this a little cooler than I normally drink my Pradikat wines as it seemed to focus the acidity a little more. Just needs time but worth an early look.

Light golden in the glass, completely clear. White peach on the nose, some candied elements and citrus too and a touch of the typical gasoline note when agitated. On the palate it gives white peach, orange, and some ripe yellow orchard fruits. It’s OK, I wish it was a tad more acidic, feels somewhat flabby.

Some recent Schaefer and Grünhausers (Home) : Nose very reluctant at first. A little bit of peach. Palate mid weight, but much more intensity, depth, sweet peach and apple, tart finish, med+length and good overall balance. 91 at least, maybe 92+. After a couple hours showing a lot more on the nose and palate. Really quite good, and will get better.

Not exactly explosively aromatic yet on the nose, but endowed with bombastic fleshy fruit character on the palate. Just exudes orchard fruit. Medium-bodied with a pleasing sensation of weight perfectly balanced with great acidity. This producer is a master of the lower pradikats. Nevertheless, this great wine must still cede first chair to Schaefer's incredibly intense '23 Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett.

This is the 4th time I'm trying the 2023 Domprobst Kabinett #3. Throughout most of the year I've preferred the Himmelreich Kabinett when I tried them side by side, but as always Domprobst needs a little extra time to show what its capable of. PnP. Easy drinking if a bit boring. Not flabby and gained a bit of steam with air, but missing most of the electricity you want from a Mosel Kabi.

Much more charming tonight. The last bottle must have been a little cooked or off somehow. Same tastes but they are all more alive. It still "feels" low acid for a riesling, but all the necessary verve is there, so it just makes for a nice change-up in the cellar. Slight kiss of honeyed sweetness as well, only adds to the charm.

Interestingly similar to the Trocken. Just a bit more honey on the nose, but the sweetness of the palate really seems to bring out a lot more flavor. Apple peach and honey meld together, slightly tart finish, med+ length. Compared to ‘21 definitely lacking in acid and a bit fat, but still a charming Kabinett.

Mosel Producer Visits-Mostly 2022 Riesling; 9/6/2023-9/7/2023 : Yellow. Slightly petrol earthy aromas. Light, dry, great acidity, classic long slate finish. Wow, a great young Kabinett and a wine that puts the lower acidity of the 2022s in perspective.

Mosel Producer Visits-Mostly 2022 Riesling; 9/6/2023-9/7/2023 : Light greenish yellow. You can smell the soil and herbs. Slightly more weighty than the Himmelreich Kabinett with lower pitched apple flavors. Average acidity, but a clinging soil finish and strong salinity still give it excellent structure.

Tasty wine with apricot, peach, unripe pineapple, a bit of bitterness in the finish, quite a bit of sugar and just enough acidity to keep the wine interesting. I don’t see this becoming better with more age

This is still a baby but has loads of promise, sporting tight, taut and vigorous power and depth - not simply charming but a big wine with consequence. The nose has notable petrol and zest, with the fruit showing balance and vibrancy. It will reward further aging.

I am substantially upgrading my score as this has completely changed after being open a week. It may deserve an even higher score. I have one more bottle of this and several other Schaefer ‘17s. I will not touch them for at least three, maybe five years. I apologize for my hasty review, and while Riesling can change and needs time this was much more dramatic than usual.

Easter brunch, no TN, from memory. Such an elegant and classic nose, very floral! On the palate there is so much going on, so many different flavors, all in a light package but full of energy. A treat.

Slight reduction in the nose, behind it exotic fruit, ripe pear, grapefruit, floral touch and apple mint. Flows wonderfully fresh and elegant over the tongue, has a fine creamy structure and a cool vein, everything is well coordinated and fine. In the finish with a good length and a fresh acid kick. Is little bit lighter than in the past two years. A Moselle classic in the best form!
