What a wine! Bairrada/Baga in the right hands is probably one of the great terroirs of Portugal (if not the best) and beyond. You get something really unique and very much special. This Garrafeira 2000 presents you with the essence of latakia pipe tobacco, cured meats, tree bark, a whiff of eucalyptus and a multitude of dark berries and cherries under. A wow wine. A loved pipe. An old wood chair that has seen death. An ancient Orthodox church.

Wow - spice, tannin, fruit and minerality all in the same glass. Long as well. This is the sort of wine that I want to be drinking - oozing a sense of place along with its bewitching flavours. It feels as though it is really ready to drink but I suspect that the plateau will be long and rewarding. Sadly I will not be able to tell you if I am right as it was my only bottle.....
