Still young and showing traditional Condrieu notes on the nose but vernay is always a much more grown up Condrieu. Recently drunk the 2011 which is going strong so this has years left. Very good

Started off with Beeswax, orange rind, apricot. Then transitioned to tangerine, nutmeg, straw. And further transitioned to floral and yellow apple. Very unlike the 2012. I love wines like this that transition in glass. @La Compagnie St Germain Paris

Brought to drink at Oinoscent, during the fun (but chaotic) visit of Académie Internationale du Vin members. Decanted the bottle, notes taken 4hr later -/- The wine shows deep golden color. In the nose, the wine shows fully developed but intoxicating perfume, overripe stone fruit, nectarine, honey notes, a few wax notes, some heavier floral notes, sweet spices, apricot jam, stone fruit chutney, sweet oak notes. In the palate, the wine shows beautiful texture, the same flavor profile, obviously fully …

I don't drink Condrieu often, but when I do? I imagine it would be like this! The nose on this wine has a lot of tree fruit, apricot, lemon and peach. Very obtuse, waxy front on the mouthfeel. Really supple and round. Really impressed with the way this one just seems to coat every corner of the mouth. Peaches, nectarines, apricots and yellow fruit are the recurring theme here. Finishes with some dried herbal qualities and leans out really well. …

Besoin d’air!

blind. Pours a light golden color, into a Glasvin expression, which worked very nicely. initially a bit concealed behind cold temperature, as it warmed, the wine opened to reveal layer upon layer of dripping nectarine, apricot purée, honeysuckle, and more. This was my second time to taste this bottling, and I was happy to guess 2017 Condrieu blinded. Probably should have put my neck out there on Vernay, as this is absolutely world class. If anyone knows of a better …

Nose of floral bouquet, very fresh minerality with elements of lemon and apricot. Light on the palate with good length. Very charming, subtle and refined. Paired beautifully with seafood, pasta even chocolate wagyu. This is now my favorite Condrieu.

Golden in appearance. Honeysuckle, tangerine and peach on the nose, very aromatic. On the palate there is good concentration with a range of stone fruit flavours and some spice and the finish lingers nicely. Having tried the Terrasses de l'Empire and Chailles de l' Enfer in recent weeks from the 2017 vintage, the latter has been the top pick followed by the Coteau de Vernon.

Beautiful mid gold color. Intermixing aroma of fragrant honeysuckle, linden flowers, tangerine and lime citrusy, apricot, dried pineapple, hint of honey, caramel, roasted nuts and sweet spices from oak. Full bodied, rich yet soft and fresh, embracing the whole palate with focused, complex flavours of fresh flowers, waxy honey, citrus oil, dried exotic fruits, crushed stone like minerality, spicy ginger, vanilla and some toastiness. It goes on and on. Already so lovely now unless you prefer more tertiary characters to …

I am a big fan of Vernon Condrieu, so much fruit, spice, and minerality. Think this vintage is a tad behind the 2015, but the bottle disappeared very quickly nonetheless.

Layer upon layer of honey, minerals, exotic fruit, peach, pineapple and a great minerality. It's acting up like a white Hermitage, yet this is very much its own. While not quite up there with the 1983 some years ago, this - once again - proves the pouvoir of this great terroir; colour me impressed. No signs of decline. #Kandestederne#HSA&M#BB

Served to me double blind in a Burgundy tasting, I am proud that I immediately thought Condrieu! This was like walking through a flower patch, making me glad i don't have allergies. Very ripe, rich and unctuous with some upside as it softens, but still best to enjoy on the young-ish side, probably 2021-2025 while fresh and bright.

40th birthday at Le Manoir (Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons) : Lots of high-toned stone fruit and honey, but has a compensating bitter finish and manages to be both incredibly rich and bone dry. Wines are often described as 'waxy' without that actually being particularly evident, but this one really was - and yet also so elegant, like a silk gown. Classy, original and delicious.

Découvertes en Vallée du Rhône; 4/15/2019-4/16/2019 (Ampuis, Mauves and Tain-l'Hermitage) : Walk around tasting talking with the producers, brief note. By far the biggest of the three tasted, with impressive weight and depth. Will benefit from cellar time. Very good 92-93 point potential.

The nose was beautiful, showing dusty, smoky minerals up front, young peach, and sweet herbs. On the palate, I found oily-weighty textures, yet perfectly balanced with saline minerals, spice, notes of ripe peach and masses of sweet inner florals. The finish was long, slowly fading from the senses with resonating herbal tones and sweet florals.

Tasted next to the 2007 Jemrose Viognier from Bennett Valley (CA) and the Jemrose beat this wine. The Vernay was polished and smooth and yet softer in tone, lacking the cut and intensity of the Jemrose.

Northern Rhone Visit, May 2009; 5/14/2009-5/17/2009 (Condrieu, Ampuis, Cornas, Tain -- France) : Tasted at the Domaine in Condrieu with Paul, the affable husband of Mme Vernay. Their top Condrieu cuvee, huge concentration with ripe honeyed fruit and crystallized ginger. Ripe lychee, pineapple. I don’t rate it higher because I found a tad of an alkalinity on the palate that was a bit off for me.

Orange, honeysuckle, and spring flowers on the nose. The longer it was open the more perfumey the nose became. Full bodied and vibrant yet low acidity, overall a luscious texture. Orange blossom and rind and confectioners sugar in the palate. I wish that we had not finished this wine over dinner (lemon risotto, sea scallops and pea shoots) because it was improving and I suspect, it had much more to reveal. it was open for only 2 hours.

Bordeaux "en Primeur" Tasting and Rhone side visit; 3/29/2004-4/2/2004 (France) : Tasting at winery. Floral nose with stone fruit aromas. Palate seemed a bit shut down at first, but opened up with peach, honey and then good mineraility from middle to end. A rare Condrieu that I think will benefit from cellar age.
