Opened 4-5 hours prior but did not decant. Ruby red, cherry, orange and strawberry waft from the glass. Medium bodied, almost pinot-esque. Vibrant fruit for it's age. Suspect it to sit around here for many years.

Very fine Barbaresco but ultimately a it disappointing. More on the earthy cherry rustic side of Nebbiolo, with good density an energy, but lacking another gewr or two I has hoped for. Still, good with BBQ.

Beautiful fragrant flowers and amazing orange peel on nose. Nicely matured, this shows amazingly well. Dark reddish fruits; cherries, nice balance with a bit of menthol in the middle. Wonderfully plush mouth feel and just joyous all around. From half bottle which I am sadly running low on. I did empty Flatiron in 2018. They were $46 each. Wow.

Medium red color with a deeper core. Lovely aroma of red fruit, mineral tones, and a nice spice component. Palate entry is balanced and attractive with a classy purity of fruit. The acidic structure presents itself towards the finish where the fruit gently fades. In a more substantial vintage, I would expect the length to go on much longer for a wine of this pedigree. Excellent. Wine of the night out of 8 bottles. Slow-oxed overnight; served around 16C. Wonderfully balanced barbaresco expression. Peak drinking. Too bad I only had one bottle in my cellar.

Single blind. Preferred this in the pair as it has much more concentration and serious fruit/structure but also feels awfully primary with a ways to go ahead of peak drinking. Thought this could be the new release 2019 Giacosa Barolo ... oops. Upside from here.

Barbaresco vs. Barolo (Chicago, IL) : Served single blind. Clearly even lighter in stature than its flightmate (which turned out to be the Pira). The acid is more prominent, and there is almost a bit of a thinness to this wine. More structural, and a bit less outrightly enjoyable than the Pira. Quite accessible now, but given that this is on the wispier side of nebbiolo, not one for long aging.

Opened at Otto e Mezzo in Hong Kong. Decanted but enjoyed quickly over drinks with friends. Very powerful but floral and bursting with fruits. Lots of structure and tannins still grippy - this just needs a bit more time/air but it was really enjoyable regardless. Upside with some time, would love to see where this is at in 3+ years, but will keep very fresh for a decade I'd imagine at least.

Chris's Italian Feast (The Quality Chop House) : This seemed very rich and stern at first (especially for a 2012), almost clunky, and the nose started out with rather a 'natty' funk to it; at that stage I preferred the prettiness of the Cogno served alongside. Time in glass helped a lot though, the issue being, I think, that this wine is so concentrated and deeply layered that it needed some space to stretch its legs before hitting its stride. …

Chris's Italian Dinner at QCH (Quality Chop House, Farringdon Road, London) : Enchanting wild strawberries on the nose which causes me to momentarily forget to actually drink the wine! Taking a sip one comes across elegant powdery tannins and a core of glistening red fruit (think cherries pomegranates) that helps disguise the mass and latent power. Chris’ Italian Feast (Quality Chop House) : Ooooh i liked this. Gorgeous nose - reminds me of those raspberry and blackberry penny sweets (a Google suggests they're called "Blackberry and Raspberry Domes") some seriousness though is added with a nice dose of animale and leather. Very silky on the palate with lush fruit - this seems to be in a wonderful spot right now between bright fruit and some developing tertiary notes. My #2 wine of the night

Decanted and served. We wouldn’t suggest a long decant here. A very good surprise given a 2012 . Good fruit, good evolution too and a very enjoyable and welcoming wine at this stage already. Soft tar feel, light herby edge. Very well done and a very good Barbaresco. 92

medium cherry red colour with brick red/clear meniscus. Bouquet of red cherry and red current followed by a dry, slightly austere palate of light red fruit, harsh tannins and a firm dry finish. Dry, light and elegant wine to accompany pasta dishes and similar food.

PnP, delicate, light, with a ton of red fruits giving way to some leather and smokiness. But the fruit seems to be the dominant element, more so than in other barbaresco paje from Roagna I have tasted. A beautiful, lively wine, it has tons of life ahead. Wish I had some bottles in my cellar.
