Friday Night Brown Bagger (J&J's) : Double blind. Black fruit followed by band aid and plastic, chemical notes. The same on the palate. Bouillon and plastic with air- not getting better. Myself and another taster shot each other a look when a few others commented that this was rich and a good wine, as if we were tasting different bottles. To each his own. (J&J)

Sweet berry fruit, acid a little out of whack, not long or complex, but I liked more than some others. B-/B

Double decanted an hour before service. Good color and nose, but starting to go over the hill. The wine went well with steak, but no longer has the stuffing to drink on its own. Definitely drink up.

Courtesy of J&J, showing a bit of bricking. Leather and black currant notes, a bit rustic but enjoyable.

Perhaps too young but i didn’t taste enough acid or tannins to expect a long life. A bit of Finger Lakes stemminess distracted from fruit. I thought a hint off Raspberry

This bottle was pretty tired unfortunately....Showing signs of madeira, xerez and port. Not oxidized just yet but definitely moving there(( Would not buy again

Smelled a bit funky on P&P but it has been bottled up for 25 years! Quickly blew off with decant - oh my what a great showing on this wine, actually reminded me of how this tasted on release with a slight trace of mint. Hard to describe overall taste sensation but I echo the positive tasters below. Great mature fruit, subtle spice and really no hard edges. Very memorable. Napa cab at its best for my palate.

Cinnamon candy, eucalyptus, strawberries, gunpowder. Smells delicious, and reminds me of other great old California Cabernets-Dalla Valle, Freemark Abbey, Insignia, Arrowood. Spicy palate, saturating. Excellent acidity, mature strawberry fruit melded to oak and rounded tannins. Cinnamon candy and eucalyptus emerge in the mid palate and extend into the finish. This is classic.

Cork in good shape. Past its prime but drinking okay. Some tart red fruit, followed by tobacco , grilled herbs and earth and savory flavors on the finish. Better in its younger days for my preference.

Slow-ox'ed for 6 hours and the decanted for service. Deep red with some color loss. Great cassis notes on the palate, with cedar and leather on the nose. Still very tannic. Solid cork. Still very healthy, with years of life left. Excellent!

Even better than last time. Sweet fruit. Pronounced acidity. Mature but not overripe and not overdeveloped. What a great decade the 80s was for California Cabernet.

A bit riper than Mondavi's but it's alive, it's fruitful and there are some notes of time. Good acid, tannins are fully resolved, finish is quite long. Lovely 30 year old bottle.

Man these bottles age well. This was a bit acidic and thin at first but over the next 2-3 hours really opened up to show nice fruit and terroir. A fairly simple wine to be sure, but drinking very nicely for a lower tier 30 year old Californian!

Beautiful, elegant. Classic aged cab notes of mushroom and tobacco and leather over a rich red/black fruit nose and soft and seamless tannins. Mature but still a hottie after all these years. Held up well vs a 71 Lafon-Rochet at the same sitting.

The wine looks purple colored. The legs are fast. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like plum, cherry, cranberry, blackberry and walnut. It tastes like mushroom and flint i do agree with others it is past it prime. The body is medium. The wine has narrow texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has low acidity.

Unfortunately - this bottle is past its prime and declining quickly. Most - if not all - of the fruit is gone and what is left is a nose dominated by aromas of prune followed by a thin and bitter taste on the palate. I should have heeded my own advice from 2012 and drunk my last two bottles then.

one more bottle left after this one and it was a really good Cab. Flavors seem to have integrated better and there was ripe fruit with nice earthy/tobacco/dusty notes. Finish was balanced and had a balanced amount of tannins to leave the taste for 20+ seconds and wanted the next sip.

fine, well integrated tannins on the palate with earthy cherry and tea. A little thin on the first day and seemed to improve with some air, but overall, it is in a lean stage. I was hoping for a little more rounded fruit on the palate so I think this is prime to drink right now and could be on its way winding down.

Smooth with a nicely balanced dark fruit bouquet on the palate. Some earthiness, blood orange, dark cherry. Tannins are very nicely integrated but I think this has the structure to go another couple of years.

In the glass the color was a beautiful garnet. Cherry/blackberry aromas dominated the nose. On the palate the tannins were barely noticeable - and the finish was very smooth - albeit a bit abbreviated. Paired wonderfully with braised short ribs. In my opinion this wine is drinking at its peak right now - and probably won't hold much beyond another year before it begins to perceptively fade. Drink 'em if you got 'em!

Blood red. Dry. Very tight. Almost seemed watered down if you like a big bold cab Lots of acid but tannins have been tamed. I let it breathe for awhile but I think a decant might have helped. Overall seemed light, dry, clean/astringent and somewhat unexciting. Drank on a friday night during lent but think it may have paired much better with a nice filet mignon.

Decided to see if this Cab was still drinkable...still nice purple color in the glass with tinges of brown around the edge. Olives and herbs on the nose...very pleasant but not real open even after decanting. Very smooth with flavors of black olive, leather, red fruit, and a hint of stems...not super fruity but delicious and great with the beef ribs we had for New Year's! Long finish that coated the mouth and left me wanting more...surprisingly good for a …

Little bit of funk which I enjoy and is uncommon for a Cali cab. Definitely a Cali Cab with the higher alcohol finish. Not quite as much fruit as your typical Cali cab. Decent bottle from a bad vintage.
