Vaucher Pere et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin

My first time with this Domaine and it was a relatively nondescript affair. Somewhat Gevrey but mostly tasted oak or the remnants of an oak-y regime. Burly, meaty…a bit too rustic for my taste. Ready to drink no doubt.

Burgundy 1er & Grand Cru 2005 : Deeply complex and expressive right from the nose. Layers of red cherry, raspberry, and a touch of meaty, smoky, gamy depth unfold beautifully. Accents of fennel and cinnamon add intrigue. The long, resonant finish speaks to its class. Fully open now, but should continue to evolve gracefully for another decade. A top-tier showing.

Nose is explosive with black fruit. The signature Serafin dry tannins are there but overall feel a bit out of balance. Could probably use another 2-3 years to relax.

Really nice, quite dark and rich...much more than I was expecting. Does well with some decanting.

Muscular yet finely balanced wine. Notes of red and black fruit. Good acidity.

Fairly expressive, layered nose of dried fruits and baking spices. On the palate, bright fruit / dried cherry fruit. Subtle oak. Finished with drying tannins. Pretty stuff. Impressive.

On the nose, ripe, dark fruit and light chocolate. On the palate, lush, dark fruit, cocoa. Suave texture, soft tannins, rather modern style. Delicious.
