Delicious wine. Better this time than last couple of bottles. Just lovely. On the sweet side, but so well balanced and light footed. No great nose, but the residual scent in the glass is glorious.

Decanted 2hrs. Dark ruby.Complex stem and mushroom nose. Lots of good ripe cherry fruit. Glossy and refined, then some chalky tannin and grippy acidity on the long finish. Despite being silky smooth and a real charmer, there's lots going on here. I think a few more years will add even more interest.

I get summer fruit mix, thyme and a touch of cinnamon with fresh lemon acidity. Really silky mouth feel. She says very savoury, herbal, with slightly unripe blackberries. Really good with food but more complex without. Was more expressive after a couple hours. Feels like it will improve with time.

(WSET4 tasting note) Appearance: clear, medium garnet. Nose: Clean, medium+ intense, coffee, toast, blackcurrant, black cherry, tobacco. Palate: Dry, high acidity, medium finegrained tannins. Medium alccohol, medium body. Medium + intense. Coffee, toast, blackcurrant, black cherry, oregano, white pepper. Medium+ finish. This is a very good quality wine. The tannins are subtly integrated, there is an abundance of primary fruit and a very pleasant high acidity. For this wine to be of outstanding quality, it needs more tertiary aromas to …

Excellent, distinctive wine. The Valli Gibbston Vineyard Pinot seems to differ quite a bit from vintage to vintage. There's always a firm, lean backbone, also a lot of acid, but the 2019 comes with a wonderfully powdery texture on the outer edges. Fruit is on the darker side, but the acid keeps things exciting. Ready to drink now, but built to last.

Pretty stunning pinot noir, everything you'd expect from Central Otago. Light, floral, luscious red fruits, red currant, some pink peppercorn spice. The thing that surprised me the most was the notes of blood orange and orange peel, made this stand out from its NZ pinot noir siblings.

New Zealand South Island Pinot Noirs from Valli : 13% AbV, old-world style, elegant Pinot. satisfying ruby colour in the glass, it opens to supple notes of cherries and strawberries punctuated by rosemary, sous-bois, and fresh wood shavings. in the mouth it is light bodied, but immediately satisfying. the fruit flavours, acidity and soft tannins are in near-perfect balance, as nuances and complexities get revealed with time in the mouth. the focus and purity of the fruit give it a …

Pinot Noir - NZ & Burgundy (Newmarket, Auckland) : young, all balanced with nice structure. firm tannins, some liquorice and whole bunch flavours, m+ finish with some earth and chocolate. It tastes more like Bannockburn rather than Gibbston, not as fragrant as I assumed. very good on its balance and solid structure. Ap 5/5, Ar 12/15, Palate 17/20, Overall 5+3/10 Total 92+/100

Medium red, powerful pungent nose of cherries & herbs, spices, as it airs in the Zalto the nose gets more perfumed, on the palate fresh & lively acidity, lots of verve, I’m sure this will get better with age, an outstanding new world Pinot 93+

One of the very best Central Otago Pinots Ive ever tasted. This sub locality is a cooler one, the summer heat in the main Central Otago basin often driving plusher, grainier textured and higher alcohol wines versus this more graceful, taut wine with vivid floral and herb aromatics and a beam of fine, pure acidity that shines through the palate. Probably unprocurable, but the winemaker also makes Pinots from other Otago districts, all outstanding.

The (Temporary) Return of the Golden Weather: Autumn 2021 Visit to Central Otago : The star of the 2019 district pinots and across all of the Central 2019s I have so far tasted. Bright ruby. Beautiful bouquet of florals, fresh red berry and cherry fruit – mainly red cherries and strawberries - with herby notes. On palate, succulent, bright, mainly red cherries and berries. Juicy with fine tannins. Very pretty. Traces of fennel (that Jen thought could be a whole …

Night of Pinot Noir with Lianzijia (Newmarket, Auckland) : Bright ruby. Fragrant nose. Dark cherry and plum, succulent, a little savoury notes, creamy texture within a pure fruity core. Solid acidity, fine grained tannins, super smooth and balanced. very accessible now though huge potential ahead. A great Central Otago Pinot, could make any first time taster a ‘wow’. 25% whole bunch, 11 month in French oak, 30% new. RC 19.5, SK 98, MC 5 stars, CD 95, BC 94, WA …

2019 is a top pinot vintage in Central Otago and this is, in my opinion, one of the best NZ pinots of the year. It was the standout of the four 2019 District blends at my Valli tasting with Jen Parr in February. It is a rival with the 2016 for the best Gibbston pinot I have tasted from Valli. A gorgeous, expressive red berried, floral bouquet. Intense, concentrated and pure. Elegant with filigreed tannins. Well balanced. Seemingly sweet-fruited, which …

This is obviously a very well made wine from quality fruit. At 10 years on it shows no sign of fading but it hasn’t yet developed too many secondary characteristics that I would find in say Felton Road’s top bottlings. A very pure wine.

The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis), blackberry, plum, flint, black pepper, tobacco and ethanol. It tastes like black pepper and prune. The body is light/medium. The wine has satin-like texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. my recommendation is that you drink now.

Ruby core with slight amber rim. This wine was extremely fragranted. On the nose, there were aromas of sweet red fruits, dried rose pedal, truffles, cedar wood, wild mushrooms, games and spice. On the palate, it was light to medium palate with silky smooth tannins. The finish was long and sweet. Drink now. Very nice but a little too sweet for my taste and that prevented it from scoring higher.
