Domaine Vaquer Côtes Catalanes Cuvée Fernand Vaquer

Aperta e bevuta praticamente subito senza averla lasciata respirare il dovuto, non sembra affatto un vino di 32 anni, anzi si rivela una splendida sorpresa con una ottima freschezza e eccellente complessità. Un vino veramente brillante che in bocca ha grande equilibrio. La prossima volta la aprirò un po' prima per vedere un'evoluzione diversa che sono sicuro ci sarà.

Off the wine list at Ox in Portland. Bottle was in perfect condition. It's got lots of barnyard and horse blanket and all of that, but in a nice way and not overpowering. Hint of black fruit still in there. Very nice and fresh and really surprising to me how old the wine was. <$100 on the wine list so also a good deal for quality of wine. Great to drink an almost 30 year old wine. Popped and poured. A little restrained at first but started to open up after 10-15 minutes in the glass. Some earthy notes combined with almost Rhône like garrigue notes and a charming freshness. Went wonderfully well with the Côte du Boeuf.

Earth and funk. Mushrooms. Almost menthol and then the fruit. Plum. Certainly interesting.

It had a nice, lively nose of dark cherries, blackberries and plums seasoned with bits of spice, earth and a touch of slatey minerality. This had a good layer of earthy, barnyardy aromas alongside sweeter scents of wild berry fruit and bits of brush herb, floral garrigue, and then some roasted coffee beans and minerally, stony notes on the nose. Quick tasting at Mood Indigo (Mood Indigo, Jalan Kilang Barat, Singapore) : An interesting wine, full of rustic charm. On the nose, funky, earth and barnyard, and some stony mineral notes mingled with beautiful sweet fruit aromas - with black plums and cassis wreathed with violet flowers, garrigue and spice, and then a little touch of herb bringing up the rear.
