The aroma starts off very fruity - black cherry, blackberry, plum. After a bit, the fruit subsides and hints of eucalyptus, smoke, bacon, vanilla show up. Taste includes all these, plus pepper. Big, round mouth-feel. Nice balance, long finish. Second day it was a little acidic, but still nice.

Dark and brambly in the glass with a rich nose of bright berries and loam. Very nice notes of blueberries, spice and brown sugar overlaying a solid backbone of acidity and tannin which leaves a faint bitterness behind on the tongue reminiscent of cranberry skins. Very nice wine. Fruit has begun to dissipate on the second day and the wine is not as lush as when first opened. Drink up.

Gave 5-6 hours in decanter. Rich purple in the glass. Nice round black berries on the nose, along with some spices and a wee bit of tar, cedar, and smokey animal fat. Very concentrated in the mouth with bright tannin. More of the black fruit on the palate and in the finish. Good drinking, but not over the top exceptional. All in all, found for around $15, a good QPR.

Taste test - with V Sattui 2008 Syrah and Blue Eyed Boy 2009. The Porter was my number 1. Smooth as silk, flowers on the nose, terrific finish. Lauri picked the V Sattui. Also terrific. Blue Eyed Boy was a blueberry, syrupy treat but very different; high alcohol.
