Got for a steal locally. 15ys on an Aussie Grenache had me curious how it was holding up… Followed over a few hours from bottle. It could have maybe been double decanted to get some quick air to it as it is still rocking quite the tannin, but it smoothed out quickly. Ripe purple and black fruits (roasted plum, blackberries, black currant) aromatically mixed with sweet tobacco. No menthol/eucalyptus but a distinct sweet note on the mid-palate. Dark, juicy, ripe …

Dark garnet color. Aromas and flavors of plums, bramble berries, forest floor, black pepper, roasted herbs and just a bit of barnyard funk. (Which quickly blew off). Quite savory and complex. Noticeable and drying tannins. Full bodied. Well made and delicious, but reaching the end of its life cycle.

Still tasting great !! I agree with my tasting notes of the past year. Consumed with friends at dinner. This bottle had a dry cork that broke, but was removed with my Durand with no drama. A balanced black cherry cola dream. I still have 3 bottles in my cellar and will continue to validate and update my tasting notes. I love Clarendon Hills wines !!

Still great !! I agree with my note of 2 months ago. Drank with friends at dinner and it was the star of the wines consumed.

I love Clarendon Hills Grenache !! This Kangarilla Grenache is so good !! Perfect cork easily removed after over a decade in the bottle. Consumed over two days, this Grenache was steady over both days and perfectly balanced. Popped and poured this dark burgundy colored Grenache. Well integrated and soft from the first sip. Aromas of black cherry, and vanilla. Silky flavors of intense cherry, raspberry, glycerin, and leather with a soft long finish. This age worthy wine is ready …

Musty smell. Cork may be tainted. The previous two bottles were good.

Re-reviewing this, and it's an interesting example of how so many factors can influence your perception of a wine. Last time I had it at a Clarendon Hills-theme dinner with 7 other people and 5 other wines competing for attention. It didn't impress. This time, a quiet dinner at home, no sensory overload. And this time it does impress. I now appreciate the developed notes---lovely earthy leather and spice. It'll be downhill from here though, so best to drink pretty …

Good fruit and still nice medium amount of tannins here. Really enjoyed this still and seems like it has another couple years left in it given how red and blue fruits still seem to shine.

Disjointed fruit/acid/heat balance as others have noted, fruit is pretty fig-prune dominant, some blackberry lurking perhaps, which is great in Amarone but feels out of place here. Rough and a bit harsh on the hot finish, really not that pleasant especially considering its French peers at similar or lesser prices. Don't think it's flawed but perhaps 'cooked' as recently noted.

I liked it well enough but it showed the grape's tendency for oxidation. Past its prime at this point, with prominent cooked fruit notes.

One bottle corked and one bottle past it's prime. Would not buy more at this point.

I agree with the folks who mention this is a bit on the hot side. Otherwise very nice, fresh and bright. Could be 3 years old instead of 10.

Dark cherry, chocolate, very ripe plums. Clearly saw a lot of sun. Minty, slightly herbal finish Very nicely integrated tannins. Took some aeration to get going. The only negative I see is that this is HOT HOT HOT. Feels even more alcoholic than the stated 14.5%.

Corked, WTSO A shame, this one had a pretty good fruit load and would have shown better than last bottle

PnP. A bit light bodied for Grenache, which is fine, but really shows the 14.5%, which is not fine. Booze bomb.

Might try to order a couple more bottles as I opened but only aired for 20 minutes or so. Still, quite velvety for 10 years but was wanting for more flavor development.

Nice Grenache with excellent nose of cherries and currant. Nice full body and grippy tannins. Starts off with lots of promise on the tongue - mainly dark fruits with a pleasant earthy tone - but there is some sort of disconnect on the finish. A little astringent with fruit fading at the end. Overall a nice bottle but not quite up to expectations. One more bottle to go, so I’m hoping it steps up and improves with a little more …

First of two of fairly recent purchase from the large wine online clearinghouse ($29.99). I seem to be on a Grenache kick with the 2 CdPs (blends, I know) and the Favia in the past month or so. Opened and decanted for about 90 minutes, preceded by a 1 oz pour. Soft, subdued nose of black cherry, raspberry, earth and perfumed florals. Similar on the palate with some minerality and chocolate. Medium purple, light to medium bodied, light to medium …

Velvet red to garnet. Vital, but surprisingly light. Beautiful integrated, multi-layered and filigree aromas of Cedar, Cherry, Fruit in Rum and a play of secondary characters as Autumn Leaves, Licorice, Eucalypt and Sweet Vanilla. Heathland and Floral notes. Little Oak. Fascinating and delicate! Reluctant flavors of Ripe Red and Dark Fruits- mostly Cherries. Fruit in Rum. Leather and Earthy flavors. Maybe lacking some midpalate density. Finishes long and soft with Dark Fruit, lively Acidity, some Round Tannins and Peppery Spicyness. …

This wine is holding up beautifully. We sneaked it into a charity dinner in a hotel ballroom and everyone preferred it with our food (fillet): a sophisticated, cherry-driven grenache with plenty of class, though clearly Aussie in its fruity profile. A touch of earthiness. We loved it, and I preferred it to the much younger Marquis-Phillips Shiraz 9 we also drank.

Drank this on Xmas with my mother-in-law's holiday cooking (filet m. and halibut). I didn't know what to expect as this had been in my basement for 9 years. Decanted. When first opened there was almost no nose so I let it sit and warm up for an hour. Slowly developed beautiful, integrated floral smells and rich scents of coffee and grilled meat. Drank after about an hour of decanting; this wine is terrific. Rich flavors but very balanced. We …

Suprisingly light red. Nice medium aroma of red friut. Really nice 'purpley' fruit on the palate. Sturdy but integrated with decent acidity. 7/04
