Pale tawny. Pronounced aromas of dried fruit, cinnamon, chocolate, nuts. Long finish. This is outstanding but feels a little pricey?
Taster #5804 · Sep 16, 2025
Tasted as part of practice for the WSET D5 exam. I rated this as merely "good". The brandy is quite present and hot. There are some bright, candied fruits and a touch of oxidative development. Not very concentrated or complex. Not bad, but would not choose to drink.

Appealing typicity, quite earthy. Generous mouthfeel. Featuring excellent acid and balance. Difficult to get excited about. Not the best QPR.

Premium quality Port. A wine that is approachable now, but will also age for decades to come thanks to its alcohol levels. Can't go wrong with Sandeman, it just delivers above its price point.

Crystal Cruises complimentary wines; 1/31/2025-2/1/2025 (Crystal Serenity - South America) : [from 375ml bottle; did not catch the production date] hazy deep tawny with notable fines. fairly expressive aromas and flavours of dried and cooked black berries and red and black plum, aged leather, baking spices and fresh and caramelised nuts. medium sweet, with good body, balancing acidity and a surprising vein of malic flavours in the finish. moderately complex and very good for the category.

Relative to the 20 (tasted side by side) this is denser and richer of course, similarly nutty but the nuts are more toasted/burned here, and above all there is a strong rancio character here you don’t get in the younger one. Some cooked, caramelized banana, some raisin, some antique furniture. A tawny for cognac drinkers I think… 89-90

One of my favorite tawnies. Elegant and delicate where others are overdone. But compared to previous years I've had this, the green apple flavor was a bit too dominant, and it tasted a bit hotter. It all comes together on the finish, but it doesn't quite have the complexity it's capable of. This is better than anything else for the price, but this year the 20 year is head-spinning, and you really need to spend the extra $20 to get …

By the glass. Aged in old oak vats. Aromas of dehydrated fruit covered with all kinds of sweet spices. Well-known complexity on the nose. On the palate, wood is quickly present leaving the sweetness for each sip with an intoxicating aftertaste.

Classic nutty tawny colour, lots of nuts, orange, apricot, nice concentration. Delicious freshness, walnut, pecan, dried fruit, caramel, and milk chocolate. Reasonable length on the finish with a medium acidity. Really nice glass. Bottled 2024

A blend of oxidatively aged Port wines made with Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Co and Touriga Franca. The different vintages - ranging from wines aged for 25 to 40 years - are blended together to create a wine that is in average a 30-year old blend. Bottled in 2023. 20% alcohol and approximately 120 g/l residual sugar. Tasted blind. Intense, luminous caramel-y orange-brown color. The nose feels rich, sweet and slightly warm with intense aromas of caramel …

On the nose, there are dried orange peel or earl grey tea. A little raisins and dried apple. Caramel is very faint. On the palate, it has medium acidity, more than I expected. Caramel and red apples. The finish is a little too hot on alcohol. Cognac notes. 8-/18

Smell of oak, burned caramel, a bit of cognac. Taste profile reminds a bit of ruby style: orange peel, cherry, cinnamon, spices (cardamon?), faint raspberry. Generally smooth and elegant, nice easy sipper that works extra well in colder weather.

Like ink on the first night but softened on the second. Very young still, stern fruit but plenty of it to mask the tannins. VP quaility will last another 30 years.

Tasted alongside the Sandeman 20 Year Old Tawny. Caramel, all sorts of nut notes and overall, a deeper, darker and more complex nose as compared to the 20. Also showed a bit less overt vanilla. Between medium and full bodied with much deeper, darker notes as compared to the 20, showing dark chocolate, lots of caramel, butterscotch and mixed nut qualities. As compared to the 20, the 30 showed more depth, slightly more complexity and more caramel notes. Because this …

Tawny ruby in color, acid is medium high, alcohol high, tannins are medium, finish is long. Aromas of raisins, cassis, vanilla, cedar. On the palate, rich caramel, raisins, walnuts, vanilla, a touch of woody cedar or oak. Good, was served at room temperature, would recommend chilling to 55-60 fahrenheit.

Sammamish Port Club - Holiday Tasting (Sammamish, Washington) : Bottled in 2015. Very clear, medium amber-yellow in color. Sweet toffee, some light spirit, and butterscotch on the nose. Smooth entry with a nice sweet flavor profile of dried nuts, Christmas spice, and caramel. Slightly drier style. Nice long finish.

The flavour profile is much as others describe, and it begins with the aromas (though they are a bit subdued by alcohol) and continues to a lip-smacking finish. The medium acidity gives this beauty some step. Had with ripe brie, Stilton and Swiss Bergkse with fig paste. Just wow. A bit of heat with finish but not interfering with the joy.

I rated it 92 on one tasting occasion and 94 on another so I will split the difference and post a 93. I also described it in one note as dark crimson with light brownish notes--not yet amber color, and in the other note, a darker amber or dark topaz hue. I apologize for my inconsistency. I like Sandeman tawnies because they seem drier than some other brands. I find prunes and figs in the scent of the wine. I …

Purchased for $85 and opened for #tawnytuesday one year anniversary. Yes, only $85. Beautiful amber tawny color with some red highlights. Reminds me of a light mahogany color. The nose on this is incredible. Caramel, hazelnut, vanilla, coconut, spice, citrus. But the palate. OH. MY. This is like velvet. Not just in the mouth, but all the way down. It feels like you wrapped your insides with cashmere. Loads of sweet vanilla, nuts and dried citrus. The whiskey acidity is …

Purchased for $35 and tasted for #tawnytuesday. Ruby on color with Tawny hues on the rim. On the nose, starts off with a medicinal cherry note, but not off-putting at all. Hints of caramel as the wine warms. On the palate, caramel, butterscotch and hazelnut. Slightly on the sweet side. Fantastic acidity and a long finish. However, there's a slight bit of heat. Not much, but it's noticable. Overall, this is a simple and easy-to-understand wine. But that's one of …

Purchased a few weeks ago. First experience with a 40 year tawny. Color was like a translucent, rich copper color with some pinkish tones. Nose was intoxicatingly complex with orange peel, toffee, and baking spices that carry over to the palate. Didn’t detect any alcohol, and the wine was served on the warm side. Very balanced. Sweetness. Good acidity. Delicious.

Sammamish Port Club Grab Bag (Sammamish, Washington) : Bottled in 2021. Bright amber-gold in color. There are dried fruits, nuts, and some light spirit on the nose. Rich flavor profile with citrus and light caramel notes. Great balanced acidity on the long finish.

Confraria Induction Trip; 6/19/2022-6/26/2022 (Porto, Portugal) : Amber-orange in color. Some initial alcohol on the nose that eventually blew off with time in the glass. Underneath are nice notes of red fruit and old wood. There are notes of chocolate, spices, and strawberries on the palate. Very long finish with some residual heat and fairly resolved tannins.

Purchased for $35 and served in a Riedel Vinum Port Glass. Clear amber in color with sight traces of ruby. Very light aromas of honey, strawberry, vanilla. On the palate, there's an unpleasant "cough syrup sweet cherry" flavor and a hint of raisin and hazelnut. Extremely short finish. This is one of the lowest scores I've given a 10-Year and is a solid pass. Grade: B-

Light tawny in colour. Complex yet delicate in its aromas, almost ethereal. On the palate, elegant yet persistent. Hard to described the shimmering veils of tertiary flavours, but I'd venture golden sultanas and toasted almonds. Ah! So inadequate! Suffice to say, the overall experience is sublime. 20%, glass Vinolok stopper.

BTG restaurant at Fleming’s in Austin, enjoyed with a spiced carrot cake. I was expecting to see more of an medium amber color, but this still has plenty of medium red tone in the color. Fairly light, but smooth on the palate yielding roasted nuts, dried red fruits, caramel, spice, and raisin. Acidity provides balance and supports a solid finish. Excellent.

Color is very faded, almost orange. Exotic alcohol nose of mahogany, nuts, cooked stone fruit; surprisingly almost delicate mouthfeel with load of flavors (orange marmalede, nutiness, stone fruit, orange). I really was impressed with the strong acidity. I think that's the secret with this wine. Decent QPR but at this price point ($70USD), I'd sooner have a vintage porto. I had made pomegranate sea salt brownies to pair with the wine but upon first sip, I could tell it was …
