Lanson, Red Label

Half-bottle at a hotel bar. Medium straw golden colour. Ripe apple, dough, nuts, bread crust, brioche, and light smoke, with medium(+) acidity and good length. Ripe and winy. Lacks tension, but has fine mousse and a creamy texture, and is highly drinkable.

05/2012 disgorgement. Unsure the storage but clearly stored properly. Perfect looking before and after opening. Cork a little shrunken but colour still yellow and the mousse still fairly persistent. Deep flavours of bruised apple, citrus and bread. Pleasant acidity and length. I can see why people have always said it's not stupid to cellar NV Lanson.

Ok this was very good and complex offering. Baked apples, spice, minerals, biscuits, lemon and chalk. A heavy Champagne which I really liked.

The best Lanson Black Label I've had yet. Bright, minerally, and salty, with ripe apples, grove fruit, and sweet Hawaiian rolls. Lots of energy and tension, with a vibrant bead and a long, crisp, and mouth-cleansing finish.

One of the better champagnes I’ve had recently. Nice pucker with no sweetness. Def will hunt down to keep a full bottle on hand

It was good, sharp acidity, notes of green apple. I will say it seems as if it finished sweet but it’s supposed to be brut. I didn’t love the sweet finish but I tend to like a dry champagne

Really not bad. 2017 base disgorged in 2022 so a few years post disgorgement aging. Better on day one. Quite pinot heavy and not the most concentrated but at this level it's perfectly acceptable. Hats off to Lanson for this level of info on the back label which should be the standard.

A half bought recently. Slightly bready nose, polished citrus fruit. Not as acidit as it was in days gone by but still fresh.

Lemon nougat and sourdough bread yeast. Some bottle variation but overall a good quality Champagne.

Long European Holiday; 6/18/2025-7/5/2025 : 2018 base. Disgorged 5/24. A nice NV at the right price. Good fruit, acid, everything. Just a solid choice.

5 decades of Champagne (Riga) : Must have been perfectly stored. Quite light colour, almost no bubbles, but comparatively very fresh. Lanson doesn't do malolactic so that the wines develop slower and are more for the long haul and it proves itself here! Light nutty aromas, some brioche/toasted bread, dried roses. We were quite lucky to have this bottle. (A-)
