Dark fruited and broody with still rough tannins. Unyielding for most of the night in contrast to the 88 village on the side. 92+

Really rich dark bramble and cherry fruit and intense minerals on the nose. Same on the palate, rich fruit, stony minerality, fine dry tannins and lots of acidity. This is delicious and the fruit profile is of something 20 years younger.

Possibly past it’s prime, this was very clean and minerally but otherwise unimpressive. Still great color and legs - it just doesn’t have anything extraordinary on the nose or palate. Mildly more character after an hour and a half of decanting, but at all times could have been a light Pinot from any region.

A dark brooding nose, with berry liqueur and black olive. Mouth - also dark fruit, complex, plummy intermixed with tobacco, with a nice sour finish still showing dry tannins. I can see the austerity of the house style. However, this one has evolved enough to make it charming though still tough. My runner up for WOTN.

A very tough, angular wine. That's not an insult - it's just very austere. I enjoyed it quite a bit and was happy to get a glimpse into the old school De Montille style. Still a nice core of dark fruit.

Eh, not that great. This is savory and autumnal, mostly dried leaves on the palate, without much fruit. Poured from magnum and sold at $29/glass at Bar Boulud, NYC. Disappointing. LPV Oslo - Closed nose, and didn't open whatosever during the evening. The palate is tannic, harsh and uncompromising. Could not detect any significant fruit material lurking behind. Given the terrible reputation of the vintage in Volnay that year, I don't see this going anywhere!

Decanted for about half an hour before drinking. With slow-cooked lamb shanks and flageolets. Beautiful nose: complex minerality and black fruit, very fragrant. Lovely fresh medium-rich mid-palate with more of those black fruits. Very slightly astringent finish but the whole package is superb. Finishing the bottle without the lamb highlights the astringency. Food wine, as if I didn't know that when I opened it.

Drinks at Taberna (Binjai Park) : Unfortunately corked along with a couple of other flaws thrown in for good measure I think - smelt like a mixture of wet newspaper, rotting cardboard and a bit of fetid meat. Whoops.

A little tight and reticent aromatically for the first few minutes - then it transforms as if somebody just turned on a switch, developing a beautiful perfume of cherry fruit, flowers, cardamom and other spices and more savoury earthy notes. Tremendous complexity and power in the mouth, still very youthful with intense fruit, florality and spice and wonderful balance and length. Stunning.

Quite amazingly dark blood/ruby. Narrow paler rim with just a touch of brick. Beautiful, vibrant nose that both shocks and seduces – lots of perfume and dark fruits rolled up with animal fur. Generally, disappointing. Coca-cola brown in color (the capsule and cork were sound). Aromatically, musty and atypical. In a group tasting, this was considered by many to be a Rhone and I could see that. A bit "mean" in the mouth...taut and austere. Not going anywhere good in my opinion. Drink up or use this for cooking.

Christmas Dinner (At home in Tokyo) : Bright reddish burgundy, still pretty solid at rim. Threw a small amount of sediment when decanted. Opened and decanted about an hour and a half before serving, the first impression from the decanter had it very much closed up, with some sweet dark fruit and a little earth on the nose, but not much more. Tasted at Lark with Steve and Dinah. Very closed on the nose when first opened. Dark, reticient fruit. Opened a bit after an hour, showing good red-purple fruit that was slightly monolithic. Acid is definitely there, but not spiky or unbalanced. Color is still purplish.
