Needs 30 minutes to come around. Medium/full body, intense, complex, fully mature. Great with food. A great wine! Ready to drink.

Dark red fruits and licorice on the nose. Beautiful color. Well balanced and long finish. A splendid classic from the Duoro Valley. Drink now or keep for a few more years. Apart from port, Portuguese wines are so underrated and unknown.

Ramos Pinto ( to me is the robert mondavi of Portugal and) are known for there great wines. This particular wine is an exceptional red and makes a perfect everday table wine. Will most likely be better in 2-4 years. Great buy!

The ideal big summer red: fresh aromatics, cherries, dark plums, with licorice and some peppery spice. Only 20 per cent touched the inside of an oak barrel, so you can taste the purity of the fruit. As the wine opens up, a touch of cocoa powder and molasses add to the complexity. This is fruity without being at all wimpy. The tannins sting the tongue nicely, but are by no means unreasonable. Drink now-2014. Food pairing: red meats.

Ruby red with purple highlights. Ripe red and dark berries on the nose: blackberries, blueberries and redcurrants. Spicy notes, toasty oak and some heat. Rather full-bodied with low acidity, somewhat grippy tannins and concentrated berry fruit. Some coffee, chocolate, liquorice and graphite. Alcohol becomes somewhat distracting in the finish. Modern Douro just isn't my style. Had lamb on the plate - but still I couldn't enjoy.
