Must have been an off bottle -lacked structure and seemed oddly thin on the palate.

It may have been the fact the restaurant decanted the bottle without asking, but it wasn’t as good as I would have hoped. Certainly not bad, but I did have hire aspersions for it which were not delivered. A solid village wine that I was hoping would punch above its weight with its pedigree.

Last time I had this wine in 2017 I said I would give it 5+ years. Well, I gave it 6 years. Based on this bottle, that was a good decision. The wine has undoubtedly become more complex over that time. It was in 2017 a primary display of gorgeous well-judged fruit. Now, the wine has added to its resume with hints of underbrush, mushroom, and even a bit of star anise. The snappy red fruit is still there, but …

Really pretty and aromatic, with delicate and detailed fruit. Very nice Chambolle!

Opened at Otto e Mezzo in HK. P&P, and enjoyed in a Zalto over several hours. Fantastic bottle of Mugnier Chambolle. Floral notes with predominantly red fruit coming out at the start, shifting slightly towards more meaty notes as it aired. Classic Mugnier/Chambolle weightlessness on the palate, with a great balance of minerality and acidity. Don't let the femininity fool you though - there's a lot of backbone to this wine. In an excellent spot right now but will keep …

PnP. Out of the gate this is bright and fruity, super expressive despite its beguiling lightness and almost translucent color. After an hour, it shifts to a much more savory and herbal driven bouquet, dominated by the classic Chambolle spice — If ever so slightly compacted or muted. Perhaps a bit shut down? Lived up to expectations but perhaps did not exceed them. I must confess the first pour was my favorite. Lo said it “tastes fancy.”

This floats in the high register (fruit-wise) like a coloratura soprano with strawberry rhubarb, orange twist, beet juice, a whiff of radish and celery salt with pin-point precision to the minerals on the nose and palate. Very fine tannins that attractive today but do some some tightness. This is a bit more closed than other bottles tasted but very attractive, even at face-value. Very ethereal and stylistically, the epitome of Chambolle. Hold for another 3-5 years before trying again. 91-92.

Very forward aromas of strawberry, orange zest with a whiff of tomato leaf adding some lift to the aromas and flavors. Classic charming, expressive Chambolle, revealing sweet spices (cinnamon) and a juniper-like floral quality that only adds to the lithe perfume seen in so many Mugnier reds.. Open for business, certainly, but I would be inclined to age 4+ years to check in again. We all loved this one. 93.

Gorgeous and effusive nose on this, dripping with crushed raspberries, cherry, violets, spice cupboard and hints of pine needles. Quite forward and eminently drinkable for a young Mugnier Chambolle. A real purity to it but complexity as well.

Quite floral in nature, which adds a lot to the basket of cherry, cranberry, red plum, strawberry and raspberry. Not deep, but expressive, clean, fresh and pure.

Opened and enjoyed over 2 hours. Fragrant red raspberry and cherry with rose petals, black tea, and a tiny bit of orange rind too. Initially reserved on the palate, but started fleshing out after 30 minutes or so. The same cherry and berry on the palate with a wonderful lacy mineral quality. Wonderful freshness all throughout with a big burst of acidity on the finish. Delicious, but will try to wait a couple years before checking in again.

At Acker's Wine Workshop Chambolle-Musigny Terroir Tasting at the Michaelangelo NY. High toned nose. Palate of cranberries, red fruit, and a lot of acidity. Still young. A lot of tasters liked this very much but I didn't find it particularly special, didn't seem that different from a well-made NZ pinot on the lighter more floral side. Bearing in mind this is a village wine it drinks well enough though. 88-89

Exceptional village wine. This was consumed in a flight alongside the 2009 and the 2010 of the same wine. First impression on nosing each glass was that the 3 wines are remarkably similar on the nose. So much so that it would be nearly impossible to tell them apart from one another. On the palate, the 2009 and the 2012 shared a lot in common - neither wine was overblown, but both were boisterous wines with a great deal of …

Miscellaneous Wines from a France Trip-Burgundy, Alsace, and Paris; 4/20/2017-4/29/2017 : Light red. Yes, it had some delicate red berry aromas and flavors, but what it had more than anything else was soil, soil, and more soil. Light, tart, and terrific. Beginning to show some secondary perfume with air. Much better than several years ago. This has deepened its fruit, become more sweet, and blossomed a lovely allspice note after being open for several days. It still retains its earthy …

Agree with previous notes from others, beautiful nose, firmer middle, not the sappy dry extract like many in this vintage, super young and should unfurl into an amazing wine, 91+.

An ethereal experience even now though quite young. Super delicate, fresh aromas of strawberry, pomegranate, cherry and a whiff of orange zest come through in a powdery-like impression with violets, rose, pepper, cinnamon, mineral and dusty soil tones. Super fine and perfumed in the mouth, crunchy and fresh with notable acidity. Beautifully pure and becomes more vivid with air time.

Ripe red berries throughout with savory spice on both nose and palate. Slightly firm middle and finish that should soften in a year or three, but overall excellent concentration for its level.

Dinner with Gavin at Bistrode : Opened about 2.5 hours prior and had closed up a bit since. Rhubarb, cherry, stem and blood - quite dark fruited and tight. Palate is also tight but had good balance and length. Give it time.

Four 2012 Mugniers (Dig Wines, San Francisco) : Light red (a tone lighter than the Nuits). Faint floral tones. Tart red and black fruit in a lightweight package infused with a fine coating of soil. Unusual fishy component in the mid-palate. Slightly briary finish, again average acidity. Compared to outperforming vintages of this cuvee such as 2002, I was not moved by this and actually preferred the Nuits.

Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Visit and Tasting (Mostly) 2013 and 2012 (Chambolle-Musigny) : Tasting at the domaine, wine is racked and to be bottled next week. Strawberry and red cherry aromas with bursts of energy. Moderate spice. Good length and balance. Excellent Villages wine.

(Fra fat) Dyp, floral nese med mørke bringebær og innslag av fioler. Ren og delikat, saftig frukt med bra intensitet for å være village. Mangler noe midtparti, men ellers veldig tiltalende frukt. Frisk syre. Lette tanniner i finish. Flott lengde med dype frukttoner.

Barrel tasting at Domaine, 7/1/13. Malo 90+% complete, 3rd time used barrel. Big red cherry with moderate spice. Elegant with great textures already emerging. Good length for its level. Always one of my favorite Villages level wines from Chambolle, with the blend of les Plantes and Combe d'Orveau a great combination.
