CWG Tasting - English Sparkling Wines (Jordan Winery, Stellenbosch) : Light gold to medium-bright yellow in colour with a very fine mousse. Tasted at the Noble Rot, Mayfair. This was an impressive bubbler from the UK. Straw and hay, citrus and apple fruit, lime juice, smoke, nuts and almonds. Crisp and citric palate.

100% oak, wine made from ten most exceptional barrels. That nose! Rich ripe fruit, spicy, cinnamon and caramel. Brown apple and cherry initially but with time explodes in all sorts of directions, baking spices, toffee, more spices. Very very rich and long. In the glass it opens up and changes the whole time. There's a touch of palo cortado sherry about this, even some Cognac. Extraordinary wine. Really pushes the boundaries of what is possible in England.
