Alma Rosa Pinot Noir Clone 667 La Encantada Vineyard

Nice, not as good as we remember from the tasting room, but did the trick for an appetizer opener. I expected more from Santa Rita Hills, a little more floral would have been nice.

This is a very dark, somewhat intense Pinot Noir, with dark fruit and earthy elements. It improved the longer it sat, and by day three in the bottle (with Gas) it was far better than day 1. The wine looks Ruby colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Blackberry, Forest floor, and Violet. It tastes like Black currant (cassis), and Blackberry. The body is Medium. The wine finishes Medium.

This wine immediately transports me to the Santa Ynez Valley. New World wines are not noted for their terroir, but this wine demonstrates that the ground from which the grapes grew CAN be captured even in the Santa Rita Hills. My nose was greeted by earthy aromas along with generous fruit and restrained oak. I couldn't tarry long before sipping this wine -- it beckoned to be tasted. The wine teased my mouth. Clear with medium deep garnet color, Nose dominated by fruit, spice and oak. Medium to high acid levels with medium body. Palate is in line with nose with dark cherries, and some earthy forest floor and sage...This wine was the best of the line up poured in the tasting room. More generous at this stage.. Wondering what this wine will evolve into.
