Second bottle of this and it couldn’t be more different. Bright ruby colour. Fresh and vigorous nose with a noticeable new oak character but also bright red fruits, subtle camphor, herbs. Complex. Fresh, bright and energetic on the palate. Elegant but tons of fruit. Fine tannins. This is a suoerb, elgant Barolo.

I rarely tend to give a wine almost the maximum note. But this Barolo embodies everything you could wish for. Typical extensive nose, majestic on the palate and still with enough tannins, yet elegant and soft. A dream. Drink now!

il gran finale del Barolo di compleanno (Osteria Langhe, Chicago IL) : The nose is unique, expressive, and deep as it fills the glass with sour red cherries, crushed rocks, currants, herbs, licorice, spices, roses, chocolate flakes, toast, woody notes, cinnamon, and tar. The Full bodied feel is deep and balanced with tart, medium+ acidity and silky, high tannins. This is a major win given the vintage. It does show off a harder edge and there is a darker take …

The cork broke as I was opening this, and the wine is surprisingly brown in colour. The nose is initially dominated by camphor, with very ripe fruit. The palate is ripe and a little cooked at first. Going to give this air and come back to it. Edit: it did freshen up a little with exposure to air but it remained very advanced, ripe and a little cooked. Not a good bottle I suspect.

Very nice although the bright red color seemed to look young while the wine was very balanced and the tannins seemed fully integrated. Will wait before opening another bottle to see how it evolves.

2016 Villa d’Este Wine Symposium - Kelly, Alan and Kevin's excellent adventure; 11/3/2016-11/12/2016 (Villa D’este, Lake Como, Piedmont, Milan and Frankfurt) : Incredibly balanced and complex nose that we all love in a perfectly mature Barolo. Expressive nose displaying subtle yet ripe red fruit, white truffle, caramel, a hint of raspberry, raisin, mint, baking spices and iron. Beautiful harmonious palate, white truffle and dry strawberry driven palate impression, perfect amount of acidity, fine tannins and a lovely long complex finish. …

An Evening with Barolo Icon Roberto Voerzio (Del Posto in NYC) : One of my favorite wines of the tasting and a very interesting contrast. First bottle we tried was a bit one dimensional and mostly candied fruit. Turns out it was off so another cork was poured and another bottle served and suddenly this wine was full of deep dark red fruit, leather, mineral, and constant evolution. Comes from some of the higher vineyards Roberto Voerzio has and is …

Wines of Roberto Voerzio (Del Posto) : Liked this wine a lot. Tasted it with the remaining '04 Rocce pour. Sweeter and less earthy than Rocce, quite dark and very complex. Layers of sweet cherry liquor, well integrated wood, menthol, dark cola. Goes on for minutes. Outstanding now, should continue to improve.

Magiskt.

Tasted at the winery. A quite dense and somewhat warm nose, with red flowers, rose perfume, spices, some leather and figs. On the palate this has traces of the warm 2003 vintage, but is showing very well, without being cooked or hot. The wine offers sweet red fruit, with a softer structure and good length. Fine tannins, and ready to drink. Very good for the vintage. (93 – 95)

ROBERTO VOERZIO VERTICAL (FLORENCE - WINE IN PROGRESS 17/11/2013) : WOOOOOW!!! Not easy to find a bottle, but hey this is a masterpiece. Full-bodied, so rounded, with masses of ripe fruits and, dried roses, a rhum cherry "mon cheri" candy. On the palate is amazing... the oak is still sweet and needs a few years to mellow, but wow!! One of the best "young" barolos I ever tasted The 2004 vintage, will be outstanding and unique! Figlio dell' annata torrida …

Barrique

World Wine Symposium 2013 - Kevin and Kelly's excellent adventure; 11/6/2013-11/14/2013 (Villa D’este, Lake Como) : Ripe and dry, subtle dry red fruits, rose, raisin and baking spices. Lovely silky palate and a hint of dry tannins. This evolved a lot with air. Drinking nicely but noticeable structure to last. I get the impression that this is a traditional style Barolo. Ripe yet not over powering and nicely balanced. I believe others liked it even more than me.

[2003 Roberto Voerzio Barolo Riserva, 10 Anni, Fossati Case Nere] one of the more remarkable wines at the Justerini Spain/Italy wine tasting Sep 2, 2013. After tasting 50 other wines, it still stands out. Some fig notes, a bit tight. I imagine it will benefit from another 5 years of bottle age before justifying the price tag of £137/bottle.

Special bottle at the winery. This wine was the best of the flight - Sweet Nebbiolo fruit on the nose with aromas of strawberry bubblegum, peppermint leaf, balsamic, clay, and roses. This wine is very rich and the most concentrated - leather and tar come through along with the other previously mentioned aromas and flavors. The finish is never ending. All 5 wines are so very similar but with subtle differences. I have never had a flavor attack like the …
