A little different than previous Thompson’s. It’s missing that candied fruit note and instead I am getting “green” pyrazine notes. Not something I generally associate with Syrah. Flaw? An off bottle for sure. Probably the worst Thompson I have ever had.

We had a splash of this at the winery, and it seemed accessible enough to pop our first bottle. Dark berries and molasses on the nose. Medium to full body and rather elegant for Thompson. Dark fruits and cherry cola on the palate with some grainy tannin. Open enough for current drinking, but I'll wait another year on the next bottle.

A bold and powerful wine, with several years of good drinking left. Forward jammy fruit notes, along with a meaty characteristic, some baking spice, and a dry mid-palate and tannic finish. The wine did mellow out after an hour open so I'd say drink within 5 years tops.

Typical Jaffurs' "bigness" with very prominent anise notes. Great, powerful wine. Could go 10 - 15 years years yet. Even better on day 2.

Last bottle was about 15 months ago. Drinking well. Pop n poured. Drank cool. There is a long life ahead for this one. Better on day 2. Even better on day 3. More pepper emerges.

Typical Thompson fruit with a touch more acid than usual. Was part of a Thompson Vineyard tasting and was bested by several others (by itself would probably show better)

Don't open it for another two or three years. Great promise but not willing to reveal itself yet. There are some berry flavors but it is clear that the tannins keep it under control.

Mellowing out. Nice balance. Candied fruit, tar, anise and great deepth. Should improve with more time. Day 2 update. Plus 2 points. Wow. Really opened up and added more deepth. Looks like a long decant is the way to go.

This is a great wine. It has beautiful color. Dark berry and vanilla flavors with a nice finish. Definitely need to pick up a couple more.

Ahhh, Thompson is back. Much more like the 2007 (and improvement from the 2008) with even more sweet and savory smoke and tar goodness. Not the most complex Syrah, but I just love the Thompson flavor profile which is mostly a semi sweet tar,smoke, pepper with vanilla and spices on the finish. -- Consumed at at cellar temp: 60°-65° F. Friends don't let friends drink red wine at room temp!

Big nose of dried fruit, baking spices specifically nutmeg on midpalate with dried fruits and spice. Nice lingering finish of spice which evolved well as the wine opened up. Definitely can use another 3-8 years in cellar to develop entirely.
