Sophenia, Gualtallary Reserva Malbec, Tupungato

Enjoyed - very fruit forward

Tasted at a wine event. Very disappointing. I have just recently started to explore in some depth the wines from Chile and Argentina and was looking forward to this wine. It did not meet expectations. Colour 3/Aroma 5/Taste 8/Ageing 5. It is still young and I may not have done in justice in such a small sample.

color: dark, lustrous purple; nose: vanilla oak; taste: pop & pour reveals full, jammy mouthfeel, dark fuit on mid-palate, finish with taste of cocoa and integrated tannins that unfortunately yields to a slightly chalky, slightly wimpy wrap-up; overall: decent wine at $13 (at Morris Miller in NW DC) for casual hanging out, but not as good as cheaper Argentine peers 2007 Navarro Correas Malbec ($10) or comparably-priced 2006 Norton Riserva Malbec.
