Slightly dumb on opening. By day 3 it is blossoming. Dark fruits, bit of spice, all nicely integrated, long finish... will continue to improve I suspect. Let's see!

Really presented nicely. Dark cherry fruit, herb and earth notes with an excellent bouquet, the wine developed beautifully over a couple of hours. Having said that, it still could probably use a bit more time. Finish was a bit truncated but all in all was drinking quite well.

Day later from memory. Is '05 Red Burgundy the Odell Beckham, Jr. of red wine vintages? Miraculous, balletic, just arriving on the scene with years of excitement ahead? Well, that might be a stretch, but it makes sense to me. This is the second premier cru '05 I've opened in the past week and both have been fabulous. Crackling with youthful energy, just starting to come around (though in truth this was a little harder out of the bottle than …

Dark ruby colored. A big, rich, heady cherry and berry nose, flanked with notes of oak and a little sous bois. Maybe a tad jammy. Serious body and extract, round with sweet ripe red fruits, finishing with a rush of tannin and oak. It's still not quite ready for its coming out party, but should be in a few years, and will clearly be better if/when the woody harshness in the finish softens and the oak integrates. Still, it's impressive …

Beltramo's Red Burgundy Tasting (Menlo Park, California) : Fairly deep ruby. Black licorice scents. Large scaled, rich wine with red/black fruit that is simple now. However, it does sweeten in the glass, and both a significant level of tannins sneaks up, and the finish is more interesting and just full of soil. This is embryonic and I could see it gaining interest and complexity over another decade of aging. Clearly better than my very first impression.

I wish I didn't read Keith's note and score. I pulled the bottles from storage, opened one - big mistake. Fantastic wine, concentrated, never to be confused with USA Pinot, good core with some sweetness to it, the time will turn this baby into a beauty. I see it coming. I'd buy it again and again.

2005 Burgundy Test Drive #1 (Cookshop) : Definitely showing its oak but very supply textured just the same. A departure from the Amiot, more velvety in texture and less sticky.
