Domaine de Saint Pierre (Fabrice Dodane) Arbois Pinot de Saint Pierre

Juicy, wonderfully fresh, long finish; excellent expression of Pinot noir. Thoroughly enjoyed. Was a joy to finally try a wine from Dodane.

From magnum. Medium ruby. Nose of dried herbs, rose petal, and leather. Beautiful red cherry and blueberry notes on the palate with a nice chalky minerality. The wine presents clean and structured, which is a reflection of the winemaker's skillful non-interventionist hand. The playful and seductive complexity is expressed entirely by the terroir. The absolute quintessence of NSA Jura Pinor Noir. Natural beauty without any hint of ostentatiousness.

Nice concentration. Was expecting some real mineral juice but this was a grown up Pinot with a supple tannic structure on the mid palate, with dark red fruit, smoke and bay leaf shining through. Opened at cellar temp and then put in a cooler, the cold made it a tiny bit juicier which I appreciated, but the structure of the wine at cellar temp was also very pleasant and not astringent at all.

Not for the faint hearted. The nose leads with a natural wine funk of yeast, farmyard, sour cherry, beat root and a touch of VA, you either love it or hate it. Crunchy palate, bright acidity but not sour, good phenolics, lots of farmyard on the finish. A nice geek wine.
