“Fortified Wines of the World” (blind), Wine 5: The wine was intense, opaque ruby in colour. It seemed youthfulf and a little closed on the nose, and offered aromas of jammy red fruit, black currant, chocolate, mint (After Eight) and spices. On the palate the wine showed red fruit, blackberry and chocolate flavours, with fresh, medium-plus acidity, slightly bitter medium-plus tannin and good length. This medium-complex, medium-concentrated LBV was well-balanced, the alcohol was well-integrated.

It has a nice core -- powerful and concentrated with fruit, alcohol, and acid well balanced. Dark purple in color, this wine reveals bright aromas of plum, raisin and black fruits. The mouth feel brings concentrated black fruits and touches of sweetness. The finish is subtlely hot with the 19.5% abv integrating nicely with the fruit. Purchased for $21US, this is a well made entry level LBV Port. Elevenses at Quinta do Bomfin (Douro) : This has a good nose with lots of character, though less fruit than the two preceding rubies. Very attractive on the attack. A nice elegant port. the fruit comes charging along, delivering dried fruit and nut flavours on the finish.
