Lovely garnet red color in the glass with just a small touch of opaqueness. Aromas of leather, tobacco, cedar and chocolate…plus ripe cherries. On the palate, a medium bodied mouthfeel with the wine’s complex fruit flavors mirroring its aromas noted above. A very approachable wine to enjoy. Balanced acidity and medium finish. A blend of Nerello Mascalene/Nerello Cappuccio (80/20%).

PnP and light garnet with peppery bright to medium fruit. Balanced tannins and acidity. Tannins are getting dusty.

Holding up fine here, similar impressions to most recent note in April, disappeared quickly with Papa Del’s deep dish pepperoni (Champaign, IL)

Last of ~ 6 bottles acquired in '17 and '18. Light red color. On nose, iron, tart cherry, strawberry and touch of tobacco. Palate was similar flavor profile ex. iron. Medium body, medium+ acidity, low tannins and nice long finish. Better than last bottle I had ~ 6 months ago (didn't take notes). 91+/- this go around. Seems to be a fair amount of bottle variation with this wine.

Prior bottle was 11 months ago and this wine continues to show quite well. Red cherry, red raspberry and a strong earth/mineral note on the nose. Nearly medium bodied with red cherry and red berries upfront, moving to rounded red raspberry through the middle. Backside shows balanced tannins, moderate acidity and tart red cherry notes along with minerals, spices and earth. Has opened up nicely, but isn't quite as defined as prior bottles. Still shows that pretty clarity towards the …

Prior bottle was just over 15 months ago and the wine has evolved as I'd hoped, justifying the initial score I gave it. Red cherry, red raspberry, earth and minerals on the nose. Close to medium bodied with red cherry upfront that's a touch more rounded than before along with the higher toned red berries. Mid-body has opened up and shows red cherry and red raspberry along with good depth. This is balanced with tart red cherry, minerals, spices and …

Enjoyed this bottle more than previous. Early bottles seemed a bit shrill, but this has put on a touch of weight, making it somewhat more elegant. Not particularly complex, but easier drinking this time around. Went well with Bolognese and a glass after dinner drank well on its own.

This is quite a nice light wine, but it needs 30 minutes of air. Initially the nose is a bit closed and the palate heavy on tannins. But after some air the nose develops into a rather nice mix of slightly sweet red fruit and a little minerality. The palate then follows the nose, still with quite prominent tannin and quite delicate. This is a wine that needs some slightly rich but not strongly flavoured/spiced food. Comparing to the 2018 …

Pungent and powerful aromas of cherry, sour candy with some funkiness. Very reminiscent of Pinot Noir. Lots of fine, really grippy tannins that almost feel sandpapery. High focused acid and sour cherry flavor. Perhaps could benefit from air or age?

By the glass at Osteria BBR - this was a simple but decent wine that went well with a veal Milanese dish. The nose had a nice bit of character to it, with dried earth and stony mineral arrayed around attractive tones of dark cherries, wild minty herbs and flowers, and just a hint of black olives. The palate was a bit of the light side, almost threatening to be watery, but with just having about enough to make a …

PNP again after dinner with guests. Wow….nose is classic Old World and the mustiest, dirt, earth and barnyard ER Ive ever had.I don’t remember this from my last bottle. It is a down in the dirt wine that I love. Extraction is great. Beats the heck out of so many lighter style ER’s. Burgundy color, high acidity but great balance and structure. Surprised at the poor reviews. This one is quite nice to my taste. Was a great match for our Sicilian Tuna Steaks in Spicy Sauce. Lighter body, but tasty fruits with a nice glycerin-y texture. Guests loved it too. Good stuff.

Clear red, low intensity. Developed, medium nose, starting spicy: cloves and rose hip soup powder. Cellar with newly fermented wine, almonds, roses, cranberries. After a while, lots of perfumed flowers and a pinch of stable. Dry, acidity medium(+), tannins low, well grinded, medium body. Flavours as aromas. Nice fine mesh texture, taut and tight. Love it! From Nerello mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. 13,5%.

Plum, red raspberry, earth, minerals and spices on a distinctly Etna-styled nose. Nearly medium bodied (13.5% ABV) with red cherry and brighter red berries upfront. Good concentration through the mid-body with a mixture of red fruits and then very good tart qualities towards the back along with balanced tannins, earth and minerals. The acidity towards the back is concealing a bit of the mid-body nuances, but with additional time, those should shine through. For a basic Enta Rosso, this showed …

Even after an hour or so of decanting, the wine really hadn't come into its own. It was very perfumed (red plum, herbs--basil?), with definite salinity and sweetness at the same time. It just felt a little closed, perhaps from being a young wine. But day two, wow. It feels lush now, soft tannins and this pillowy sensation in your mouth. Really balanced, pleasant acidity. It feels warming and comforting, while retaining its elegance. iThe wine has some staying power--flavor …

Four years on, and here's my experience with my final bottle. Very good, but not until day three. I don't think I need to bore you with what I smelled and tasted, each of us observes these features differently. This should continue to evolve, positively, for several more years. https://italianwine.blog/2020/10/22/wait-and-see-2014-benanti-etna-rosso/ recommended+ http://www.italianwine.blog

Fresh and airy, also oxidative and somewhat tertiary. Aromas of dried red cherry, herbs, nutty coffee, tobacco and spice. Lithe and lively on the palate, with a short burst of juiciness on the midpalate, followed by notes of dried fruits, baking spice and bitter herbs. Subtle overall, not a showy wine. It lingers delicately on red and orange fruits, herbs, flowers, tea.... Nice stuff, if not terribly exciting. Probably best over the next few years.
