Lovely garnet red color in the glass with just a small touch of opaqueness. Aromas of leather, tobacco, cedar and chocolate…plus ripe cherries. On the palate, a medium bodied mouthfeel with the wine’s complex fruit flavors mirroring its aromas noted above. A very approachable wine to enjoy. Balanced acidity and medium finish. A blend of Nerello Mascalene/Nerello Cappuccio (80/20%).

Last of ~ 6 bottles acquired in '17 and '18. Light red color. On nose, iron, tart cherry, strawberry and touch of tobacco. Palate was similar flavor profile ex. iron. Medium body, medium+ acidity, low tannins and nice long finish. Better than last bottle I had ~ 6 months ago (didn't take notes). 91+/- this go around. Seems to be a fair amount of bottle variation with this wine.

Enjoyed this bottle more than previous. Early bottles seemed a bit shrill, but this has put on a touch of weight, making it somewhat more elegant. Not particularly complex, but easier drinking this time around. Went well with Bolognese and a glass after dinner drank well on its own.

This is quite a nice light wine, but it needs 30 minutes of air. Initially the nose is a bit closed and the palate heavy on tannins. But after some air the nose develops into a rather nice mix of slightly sweet red fruit and a little minerality. Pungent and powerful aromas of cherry, sour candy with some funkiness. Very reminiscent of Pinot Noir. Lots of fine, really grippy tannins that almost feel sandpapery. High focused acid and sour cherry flavor. Perhaps could benefit from air or age?

Surprised at the poor reviews. This one is quite nice to my taste. Was a great match for our Sicilian Tuna Steaks in Spicy Sauce. Lighter body, but tasty fruits with a nice glycerin-y texture. Guests loved it too. Good stuff.

Consistent with most of the other CT notes: totally uninspiring. Seems to be a miss in 2016 for this Benanti bottling. Just straightforward grape juice lacking personality and complexity. Even at this level, expected more.

Clear red, low intensity. Developed, medium nose, starting spicy: cloves and rose hip soup powder. Cellar with newly fermented wine, almonds, roses, cranberries. After a while, lots of perfumed flowers and a pinch of stable. Dry, acidity medium(+), tannins low, well grinded, medium body. Flavours as aromas. Nice fine mesh texture, taut and tight. Love it! From Nerello mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. 13,5%.

Fresh and airy, also oxidative and somewhat tertiary. Aromas of dried red cherry, herbs, nutty coffee, tobacco and spice. Lithe and lively on the palate, with a short burst of juiciness on the midpalate, followed by notes of dried fruits, baking spice and bitter herbs. Subtle overall, not a showy wine. It lingers delicately on red and orange fruits, herbs, flowers, tea.... Nice stuff, if not terribly exciting. Probably best over the next few years.
