Decanted roughly 4 hours before drinking on the first night. Rather unexpected watery garnet color as I had expected a much deeper color. There was substantial yet mostly very fine sediment. The nose was a myriad of fragrances from Asian spices to cedar to plums to tar to...you name it. On the palate the wine is, to my experience, the epitome of balance in vintage port. It's sweet, it's got great acid balance, it's fruity, and there's no overt alcohol …

I poured this to cover the rest of my evening, watching the USA - Slovakia game at the World Junior Championship, one of my very favorite events on the annual sports calendar. If you are a hockey fan and this isn't something you watch every year (it's on NHL Network), you are really missing out. As for the Fonseca: delicious, poached dark fruits as suggested by a previous reviewer; I get hints of kirsch cake (but not the one my …

30 Years of Wine-Pages and 25 Years of the Wine Pages Forum (Hawksmoor, Edinburgh) : A plummy ,remarkably unporty nose. Very lovely open, ready vintage port on the palate. Very clean feeling. Sweet black cherry fruit. Bit of a milk chocolate feel until overtaken by some spirituosity on finish.

30 Years of Wine Pages and 25 years of the Wine Pages Forum - A Celebration Dinner (Hawksmoor, Edinburgh) : A quality port here but feels less ready than the Vesuvio tonight. There are spirity cranberries and some chestnut brazier notes alongside some rich plum fruits on the nose. The palate is rich and porty (!) with some plum fruit and chocolate. As this breathes there are some redcurrants and Rooibos tea characteristics. Would love to revisit in a decade. …

Opened for special Thanksgiving lunch. It didn’t disappoint. The Fonseca 1977 shows remarkable freshness and depth for its age. Dark fruit, spice, cocoa and dried fig come through in layers, with an aftertaste that keeps developing long after the sip. I believe it can still hold for many years and remain exceptional.

From a split. This is drinking well now, but I suspect will go for decades more. Drank over two nights, and was better on night two after sitting overnight in a carafe at wine fridge temperature.

Popped, poured, and consumed over three days. Light, luminescent reddish color; rum-soaked fruitcake nose. Nutty, dried fruit character. The wine is noticeably better on day two. Ambrosial fig notes, along with raisinated sweet grape candy. Delicious.

Opened for a friend's birthday since it's his birth year. Out of 375ml. Super fresh and young, even with a double decant. Great fruit and good acidity. Not clunky. Very mineral. In a good spot with a decant. Still fairly big in style though.

Enjoyed with my parents for 50th wedding anniversary. This is a special wine, well worth the wait. Should have decanted longer but 1 hour was enough to realize just how incredible it is. Still fresh, nutty, sweet raisin, a bit hot at times but mellowed out over time. Smooth syrupy finish that just begged for chocolate toffee. Phenomenal wine. My parents were blown away, too.

Double blind from a small capped bottle (as part of a zoom tasting). Excellent nose of sweet poached plums, violets, dark spices. No fruit cake or spice cake. Very focused and aristocratic - some graphite and a bit of graham cracker. The palate is similar. Dark purple, spices with violets and graphite and dark plummy fruit. This is the style of port I like. Almost no cake aspects to it at all. After it was nailed down to 1992, my …

I drank a half bottle a few months ago, so this is from memory. It was delicious, like candy. Still very young and simple. I think that this will be the second best of the 2003 vintage. Taylor is showing more complexity at this point, and I think it will be the best, though it too is still very young. I would buy many bottles of both now if I could, before they get too expensive. Given limited means, I …

Okey dokey! Despite being on its side for 19 years, the cork dried out and crumbled...oh, ohh... A significant crust as expected. Double decanted. The alcohol was a bit overpowering upon opening, but on night 2 this was just glorious. Sweet roses on the nose carry through on the palate. Alcohol on day 2 was completely integrated, as was the residual sugar. I'm not extremely well versed on port, but this was a port worth loving.

Ok. I see what 2003 port is about. Very forward nose - very sweet, fruity and spicy. Graham cracker? maybe some florals in the background. Really expansive on the palate with deep spice and fruit. Exotic and plush - definitely a crowd pleaser with the Fonseca exoticism in spades but it works. Finish isn't as strong. Nose - 5.5+?/6, Palate - 5.5+?/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17.5/20 (w 17.5-18/20 potential.)

Chocolate covered cherry, beach plum jam, raspberry liqueur, strawberry & earthy plum. Rich, rich, rich. On the medium/lighter side of things, with mostly soft & resolved tannins. Medium minus acidity & medium/medium minus intensity. Very pretty, if not a knock-out. Cork disaster (along with the 95 Coutet)!

Split. Elegant and powerful expression of Vintage Port. Complex layers (carob, baking spices, dried fruits, savory, tobacco, molasses, cacao, coal, etc) in harmonious, inflection-changing interplay. Strking textural weight, backed by powdery and steely tannins. Modest sweetness, integrated alcohol. High symmetry and balance. This bottle had a decade of evolution and life ahead of it. Profound. Soul-stirring. Satisfying. 97-98.

Base neck fill. Cork soaked and strainer needed. Heaping tablespoon of sediment. Decanted for 30 minute and back in bottle. Consumed 4.5 hour later. Everything you could want in an aged vintage port. Alcohol is present but not hot. Overlapping layers of dark and red fruits are sweet and ripe but not syrupy or jammy. Some underbrush elements and a touch of Oak add balance. No rush to finish you remaining bottles.

From a 375ml bottle bought on release. Cork came out with no trouble using an ah-so. I was surprised at the translucency of the ruby red color. Not inky dark, but also not much if any browning/aging. Moderately fragrant of violets, also some ethanol burn. On the palate it tastes moderately sweet -website says 92 g/L. Nicely balanced by good acidity and red fruits. The alcohol (20.5%) is noticeable, but seems integrated rather than jarring. Doesn't seem especially tannic, so …

Decanted off moderate amount of sediment. Medium-dark red color with medium transparency. Aromas of cherry, licorice, and spice. Palate has slight medicinal cherry, spiced plum, licorice, blueberry, and some floral notes on a medium-long finish. Drank well over the course of two days in the decanter. Will continue to develop but fully mature to my tastes. Drink or hold.
