Opened at the POB Gala Dinner in HK. Good, not great. Well-balanced nose and still quite fresh, drinking cleanly and going down easily. For both the Robert Arnoux and this Arnoux Lachaux, it would be hard to pinpoint a distinctive house style - shows that Charles is definitely bringing something different these days. Still, great to try!

Nose: Earthy, mint, herbal, musky, tea, fig, red flowers, fig, bubble gum, nuts Notes: the nose is so complex and it changed several times during the 2.5 hours that we opened the wine. This is rather sentimental, the first pour and the last pour is so different. After 2 hours of opening the wine changed from a meaty and earthy monster into an elegant and floral wine . Slightly green, restrained acid, strong minerals, deep heat, plenty of fruit, citrus, berry, soil, dark spice. Really concentrated by usual Latricieres standard, deep brown sugar palate. Still coming together. 92-93

Citrus, cherry, and oak on the nose. Palate was classic burgundy with good acidity and minerality. Lots of power on the palate but missing some nuance and precision. Slightly four squared at this stage, but its probably because of its youth.

Wonderfully expressive and classic Latriciere Chambertin - unmistakable beetroot and compost on both nose and palate with the red fruit more subdued but becoming more expressive with the bottle open. Broad in the mouth with sufficient oak to give a taut tannic structure that promises more to come, although nothing faded over the course of the meal making now a good time to drink. A classic grand cru for a special occasion.

House Party (Chicago, IL) : Austere and stern in the way that 2008 can be, but this had a certain fleshiness to it that was different. I've mentioned previously how some 2008s have made me worry about the fruit dissipating before the structure resolved itself; this bottle gives me no such worry. Leiden End of the Winter Tasting : Decanted for one hour. Lovely expressive intense nose, intoxicating, black fruit. Taste full-bodied, cassis, a bit peppery, lovely acidity, round tannins. Finish a bit short. Much better than I expected it to be, had a different 2008 1er cru the last week, which was also open for business.
