Upon opening, this wine shows a subtle patina, but needed some time to open. The color on the cork was beautifully dark and fruity. The first touch on the front pallet had that characteristic fruit, but was more subtle than in earlier years. However, after more than an hour of residence time in a deamcanter, that great Dry Creek fruit that we had come to love came alive. Still drinking nicely, but our remaining bottles are up to the front …

Trying to be objective, I have to say this wine was probably a little past it’s prime. Still though, incredibly smooth, reasonably long finish (25s+), with both forest floor and dark purple fruit flavors. End of and era...

Comparing two '08 Syrah heavy hitters. Both wines needed food; the charcoal grilled lollipop lamp chops really launched these wines into a different orbit, especially this Sherwin. Overall, the Sherwin was more youthful with bigger and bolder flavors of black cherry, black berry, plum skin, mulling spices, oak, vanilla and a tart cranberry dusty lengthy finish.

Sherwin makes some great wines. This syrah is no exception. Big fruit without being jammy with solid tannins. A pleasure to drink.

I'm stunned that this gets so many 90s. I shed a tear when this was gone, as I find it terribly disappointing that Sherwin no longer makes this wine and I'm down to my last bottle. This bottle was smoooooth and full of blackberries, but with plenty of complexity in the form of mint, fig, leather. Super long finish. It's really begging me to go back and get the last bottle sooner rather than later.

Deep dark red color. Terrific nose with layers of black pepper, bell pepper, licorice,mint, tobacco and tar. Spicy tastes of figs, black pepper, mint, cocoa, toast and pencil lead. Nice wine but it's just past its peak.

Very deep dark red color. Hints of toffee, chocolate, mint, pepper and spices. Nice mouthfeel with layers of pepper, spice, mint and toast.
