Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Gevrey-Chambertin en Champs

Medium to medium-dark ruby with pink rim. Redcurrant, red cherry, raspberry, rhubarb, frozen strawberry, floral, pepper, cotton, oak and mild leather. Medium to medium-full bodied, medium to medium-high acidity, medium-high tannin, medium to medium-high structure, medium alcohol and long finish. Fresh, energetic and well-balanced. Wine had tendons yet delicate. The tannin nicely shaped the red fruits and focused by the acidity. Nice village Bourgogne rouge. Recommend to let it breathe for 1-2 hours due to the high tannins upon opening.

Beefy and burly, firm and savoury, this had cherry fruit supported by firm tannins. Still vibrant and vigorous this had a rich full finish of Black Forest gateau. Most enjoyable if a tad hot on the finish. CHP 91 pts

Voluptuous and lively starting off right out of the bottle - with light acidity barely but not unpleasantly keeping a balance - reminiscent of Swiss alpines with violet wildflowers. Quite quaffable, which pushes its rating perhaps further than its underlying merits.
