Very enjoyable if not great. Nicely in its drinking window with the teriary aromas becoming more noticeable on the palate as it took on more air. 4-

This has come good. Previous bottles have been a soupy stodgy mess but this one was lovely . Maraschino cherry fruit, touch of rose petal. Good length and balance. Still has tannin and structure is good so should improve .

Very aromatic on first pouring, with cherries, tobacco, baking spice, and a touch of barnyard. The aromatics fade after some time in the glass suggesting the wine has peaked. Medium bodied and lithe. Finishes with firm (almost searing) tannins. Not clear that the tannins will resolve before this fades.

Floral, still a hint of barrel, a bit tight still on the nose. Firm tannin and chocolate on the palate, round and lush, licorice, med+ intensity, quite generous with some heat, roses on the finish, but still a bit of tannin drying the end. Present and correct acid. Better on day 2: more round and fruity

Popped and poured into a decanter. Wasn't planning on opening this. Tight as a drum but lots of good material here. This had probably ninety minutes of air tops before we finished it. A few years at least before I open another.

PnP. Initial aromas of evergreen, cherry, eucalyptus, violet, savory herbs, iron. A bit closed at the start. On the palate darker cherry, some grippy tannin, some heat and acidity leaving a neutral drying/watering impression in the mouth. Medium legs. Color has bricked some, although still quite garnet with only a bit of orange at the edge. Good on its own. A bit linear. Not thin. Drinking before, with and after dinner of leftover shrimp, broccoli and peanut-coconut sauce with pasta. …

More approachable then 06. 3 hours of bottle decant. On the nose menthol, rose, strawberry, raspberry, nuts. On palate it was powerful, medium body and medium acidity. Minerals and soften tannins. Drink now or hold. Really nice and great QPR.

Wine Wednesday (Free & Easy) (Extra Space) : Tasted blind. Drank from bottle after 3 hours of air. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of tar, earth, floral roses, licorice, sweet spices, red fruit. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.5%), fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of licorice, sweet spices, tarry earth, red cherries, red plums. Given one hour of air in bottle, and drunk over next 2 hours. Clear, pale/medium ruby. A fairly pronounced nose of ripe red cherry, strawberry, prune, leather, tar and tobacco, with rocky minerals and vanilla oak. Medium+ acidity, medium+ body, medium+ flavour intensity of red fruits, licorice, tar and earth. Medium+ tannins that remain a little ripe but are starting to integrate nicely. Still on the young side, but already good to drink. Should improve with a few more years.

Beautiful see through color, mid weight red. The nose tells of underbrush, wet grass, wild strawberries, the small ones you can find in Italy. Very fresh menthol and minerals hints. On the palate strong notes of small berries, blueberries and raspberries. Very firm tannis, very juicy, the acidity is just yummy. I like it a lot, for this price range (~40$) is a sure winner.

This gem is rusty, red brick in color with roses and an herbal hint on the nose. Well-structured with polished tannins and fresh acidity the taste profile combines a bit of black pepper, juicy strawberries, dried cherries, orange peel, and hints of licorice and mint. It's drinking beautifully after a two-hour decant and paired with pasta with a hearty tomato sauce and Italian sausage. Delicious and would buy again at this decent qpr.

The first 2007 I've had that seemed to have closed up - I had wondered if they'd mostly remain quite accessible. On the basis of this bottle, let them sleep for 5-10 years before revisiting.

Opened decanted and poured back into the bottle. It was oaky on the nose and on the palate but lots of sweet fruit and a decent finish that had some complexity. I'm sure this would be better with more time either decanted or in the bottle and definitely with food. It has more life left and it certainly should improve. 88 points

Barolos are always an interesting change from my typical Napa and Tuscan go to wines. It takes me a minute to adjust to these unique characteristics, but once I do, it's fantastic. Even the burnt orange color throws me off. Big mouth feel but light on its feet, this well bodied wine has good acidity, and hints of floral, citrus and apple. Great wine to bring out in unique Italian situations when you want to impress someone with something different.

Muscular, powerful fruit, satisfyingly chewy tannins and sharp acidity. Classically full bodied Barolo flavours. A little aggressive, but has a long finish, stacked palate, great tension and certainly has ageing potential although I think it will always be a (loveable) bruiser. I have had a few Manzone wines and they seem to be a benchmark Barolo producer, one which sets a high standard for post-£40 barolos to match. 91
