YES Society note: As you wander through Ajaccio, Corsica’s lively capital, you’ll see streets, plazas, and monuments bearing the name Abbatucci. Here, Abbatucci is practically synonymous with Corsican heritage, thanks to General Jean-Charles Abbatucci, a French Revolutionary War hero who died on the battlefield at just 25, shortly after becoming a Brigadier General. A few dozen decades later, in the 1960s, winemaker Antoine Abbatucci saw another battle unfolding—the quiet loss of Corsica’s native grapes. Ampelography became his obsession, and he …

Drank with dinner at Misi. Light and saline; paired quite well with lighter vegetable-forward dishes. Agree with previous note that this would be pretty impossible to ID.

I blinded crew with this, they didn’t stand a chance (guesses were Loire and Rhone, both reasonable). I like the wine, but even I only know one of the 6 grapes (25% Carcajolu Biancu, 25% Paga Debiti, 20% Riminese, 15% Rossola Brandica, 10% Biancone, 5% Vermentinu). Savory and saline, citrus and almonds. long and leesy. B+/A-

Pale straw yellow, with a nose that initially showed some cat piss aromas, but opened (thankfully!) with air to focus around light yellow currents, lime flowers, tilleul. Midweight with a smooth palate. A good effort, but not as strong as the 2012 Diplomat, and honestly, a bit expensive for what you find in the bottle.

Pale straw, with a lovely nose of citrus and white flowers. Relatively light bodied, and the intensely aromatic nose is almost surprising. Floats on the palate, slightly tart and very clean, delineated, yet with a hint of fruity sweetness and a long mineral finish. Could be mistaken for a very successful Chenin Blanc. Lovely stuff, but could use just a tiny bit more richness... I have had this in other vintages and this one seems a little too light. That …

Very light yellow. White and yellow fruit, floral with rubber hint. Medium body, good acidity and long. Some guessed Chardonnay.

Full yellow. This was also a large scaled white wine but not nearly as satisfying as the Diplomate d'Empire. For one, it has an underlying core of oxidation. The fruit seems blurry, and compared to the other 2 whites, it lacks verve and freshness.

Nose similar to Cavaliere with mineral and floral but much more depth on the palate. Citrus, stone fruit, depth of minerality. Almost chalky. Medium plus bodied. Medium plus acid. The most structured of the whites, but also the most balanced. Drink now or hold, really may need another couple years.

Comte Abbatucci (Corsica)-The Most Interesting Wines in the World (Dig Wines, San Francisco) : Medium yellow. Deeper pitched, more restrained nose than the Cavaliere. Delicious bitter citrus fruit, real density and chock full of soil. Exceptional complexity and earthy finish. Completely impressive.
