Medium body with good depth. Ripe red cherries, red plum, elder berries, spice and rooibos tea. Willingly expressing its flavours. Well structured and balanced. Very enjoyable. From small format

Fresher and more aromatic and lifted than the 60 Ouvrées drank last night. Mouth feel and intensity is balanced against the fruit. Long finish. Delicious juice.

2009 Pousse D'Or Clos D'Audignac Volnay Purchased on release; enjoyed Friday March 22, 2024 45 minute decant Deep ruby color with slight lightening at rim. Expressive bouquet of black fruit and sous bois. Rich, aged, succulent fruit, excellent balance, soft tannins, and 10+ second finish. A really enjoyable Volnay 1o Cru with all the characteristics of the 2009 vintage on full display. A lovely wine from a really good producer. In a perfect spot now, and still has 5+ years …

From 0.375. Opened after midday and let breath in bottle until dinner. Rather deep and medium to full body. Rather ripe with tertiary elements. Notes of red and dark fruit, autumn leaves, blackberry, elderberry, nutmeg, old leather and forest floor. Good supporting acidity, smooth and well integrated tannins with sufficient freshness. Highly delicious from small format at this stage

Very tart cherry, a little oak and a little something dark, like earth. Lacking some body, with a somewhat hollow mid-palate. Honestly, somewhat simple, maybe even insipid. I would not object if others say this was shut down or a poor bottle, but this had little of the richness or vibrancy the pro notes promised.

Bitter cherry predominates, with some pomegranate and herbs in the background. With air, it took on deeper tones of darker berries with some forest floor notes. Despite some other notes, I wouldn't call it lush; maybe lush for a Burgundy (we all have our points of reference). A bit gritty, but the fruit compensated. Not particularly complex at this juncture. Bitterness was really the key point. I could tolerate it, but not really enjoy it.

Natebm-One of the best terroir in Volnay in a hot vintage. Nothing on par with the terroir quality though, nevertheless the wine managed to retain some chalky qualities. Drink up.

Disappointing. While the fruit is concentrated, the oak overpowers it and the overall impression is pretty disjointed. I've touted Pousse as a good value, but this wasn't a good one. Maybe a bad bottle; or alternatively, the last 5 years have not been kind to this.

Young, red fruit but dominated by the elevage. Keep another 2 years for next bottle. Air helped to open up ut not nearly as expressive as the bousse d’or 09 2 years ago

Annual Tasting Group Holiday Party (St. Genevieve, Mpls, MN) : Small tasting pour. This was really floral, filled with roses and bright red fruits on the nose, high toned and lifted. The palate is medium plus bodied with darker fruit, power and lots of structure. The nose is the star and the palate is not quite as expressive yet. 91+ to 92pts.

Super enjoyable! Medium bodied with smooth tannins, energy and juicy fruit. Great nose and moth feel. Still youthful and still has room for improvement with more age.

Even ruby. Briary nose. Medium body, moderate oak. Tart cherry and plum. Lively and no warm vintage imprint. Still room for further improvement and addition of complexity which it is missing now.

(from memory) Medium to deep ruby, very fragrant with black plum, black cherry, cassis, Asian spice, earth, and more, round, warm red fruit on the attack followed by layers of well structured dark fruit, spice, earth, medium tannins, loads of extract and balancing acidity, finish is long, complex and haunting with red fruits, strong extracted berry flavors, integrated tannins and strong minerality that just doesn't quit, outstanding

This was excellent; served next to Esmonin Ruchottes this was clearly more mineral and floral; didn't have quite the concentration on the palate, but a beautiful Volnay that shows the classic minerality and elegance of the site. Still lots of upside on this wine for my palate.

With an hour in the decanter this is drinking fabulously, and continued to develop in the glass. The nose is a little restrained, but it explodes on the palate with cherry, plum, liquorice, and crushed stone. The depth is outstanding and it is luscious in the mouth. Likewise the finish is perfectly balanced, and keeps subtly pushing on for 30+ seconds. My only criticism is that it is so easy to drink that it's a push to make it last …

Appearance: medium garnet. Nose: medium intensity; aromas of red cherry, nutmeg, rose petal, sweet hornthawn, perfumed woody notes, earthy, toast, subtle plummy, a little prosciutto note. It’s developing. Palate: dry, high acidity, medium plus tannins soft and savoury, medium alcohol, medium body, medium plus flavour intensity. Lovely umami and savoury characters with the tannins. The finish is long. Overall, it’s a very good wine. Can drink now, has potential for further ageing. Super fine and elegant with great concentration. The …

I think it's been year since I've had a red Burgundy. Plenty of earthy barnyard notes in this one, but still had some dark cherry flavors as well. Solid, but nothing too exciting.

Exuberant nose, full ripe berries, black berry blueberry and cherry, some sappiness; the mouth is where it's at: mouth-filling, a bit fleshy but not overly so; yeah acid is not puckering, but makes up for it in ample tannins; shows some oak aging going on but faded away and was buried behind the fruit after a short while; Maybe not a purist Burg here but delicious, rich, bigger Pinot that I think should age well thanks to the tannins. EWG …

From 375ml. Cork barely stained. PnP. Still dark. Cherry, plum, violet. Mid-weight palate is a little taut. Black tea-like feel in the mouth, but the acid is a little prominent. Tannins are still drying. Needs food if consuming now.

Initially relatively weak nose of blackberry, cranberry, pomegranate, with fuller and gamier notes emerging after a half hour; fairly full palate and somewhat long lived, a certain plump elegance and suavity, but somewhat closed and rather lacking in finesse and interest

Wow! Dang this is delicious, even at this young age. Incredible nose of spice, licorice, saline and oyster shell, bright reddish fruits with sour cherry, dusty cranberries, mineral... explosive. The finish is round, long, structured, and balanced. Very approachable now after a 30 min. decant. Incredible wine which I am now on the prowl to acquire more. Worth every penny...

Pretty deep darker ruby color. Pretty explosive notes of dark cherries, plum, smoke, oaky spiciness, licorice, also some gamey notes, some violets and minerality. It's medium-full bodied, dense but very balanced with medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin that is still present but very good quality. With some more air also some sour cherries. Very good length. A beautiful, juicy and seductive Volnay 1er Cru and a mouthful of Burgundy. It's not the last word about complexity but makes up for …

Beautiful, expressive, ripe pinot nose. On the palate this is ripe, juicy, and a bit glossy, but the balance is good and this has nice acidity. Very primary fruit flavors at the moment. Young but worth a peek if you have a few. Good value for the money, and I expect this to age.

Tuesday Night Double Blind $50+ (Alpharetta, GA) : Darker ruby, paler rim; darker fruit on nose, slightly reduced, oak, red apple skin mixed with violets, roses, and dark cherry, toasty oak, still very young, really thought this was Cote du Nuits; called '12 Gevrey; happy to see this still young and ageing gracefully; very good.

I love this producer... Consistently great wines regardless of the vintage. While still very youthful, it is hard to resist now. It continues to unfold over the course of three hours. Jammy fruit and almost new world in style, this is still pure 1er Cru Volnay. Delicious! All roads do ultimately lead to Burgundy... I just wish my pocketbook would follow this road.

super ripe. Very ripe and tasty in a pop an pour. Strong cherry, and pinot fruit that move to a viscous and long finish. After 2+ hrs, we start to get pinot funk on the nose and earth in the taste. Nice now, but give this at least 5 more years.
