This was basically the “go to” red at the Leland Wine and Food Festival. It a combination of vinifea and hybrids that resembles a Loire Valley red, may be a touch darker in color. Though displaying its Leelanau County terroir, it is also quite worldly in style. It’s not big, but full and complete. Ripe cherry and other red berries, but some lingering dark fruit. We went back a few times.

Rarely do we get the chance to experience such an inspired combination of hybrid and vinifera red grapes. Tasted at the winery tasting room in Lake Leelanau, Mi. Had to bring some home. They used the early ripening French Hybrids; Marachal Foch, Leon Millot and Chancellor to bring as inky dark purple color as any Michigan red that even rivals a Petit Sirah. Rich and intense red fruit entrance while maintaining that Leelanau Peninsula lean elegance. Lively bit of spice. …
