PNP and then consumed over a 3 hour dinner. Black fruit, sandalwood and some earthy funk on the nose. Sweet fruit on the palate, rich and slightly green with a bit of oak tannin that extends to the drying finish.

Beautiful bouquet with strawberries, hawthorn, and vanilla. Palate was sweet and expressive but quite soft for a 09 GE. A bit more evolved than my expectation. Tonight, it showed more like an 07 to me. Very enjoyable nevertheless.

Dinner with friends in a very special place (CPC, Carmel, CA) : Simply awesome! Wonderful nose of strawberries, truffles, minerals, and Burgundy terroir. This is a wine for high class nobility. Drinking in a great spot right now. Yum!

Ripe red fruit, spicy. But I felt I could feel a little bit of heat. 2009?

2023 La Paulee Offline with the NYC Crew (The Bar Room at the Modern) : This wine did the opposite of the Ramonet; it started out a little suspect then blossomed into something ethereal and utterly charming. By the end of the evening I couldn't decide whether I liked the Bonnes Mares or this Grands Echezeaux the best. They were running neck and neck with the Trappet nipping at their heels. The wine was double decanted for about 2 hours …

Wonderful showing again with ripe red fruit, spicy oak, smoke musk and gingerbread. Very sexy, crowd pleasing style but also with depth and complexity.

nose of spice and also a little toast - perhaps even a little too much. But the wine has great fruit and is attractively constructed. I would keep this longer for further integration - but quite open now.

Bordal chez Albert (Vega, Ausone, Haut-Brion, Mouton...) (Chermignon) : Aveugle.

Some stems, citrus, green oak char, black cherry, a touch of funk/Brett and some cool aromatic Asian spice box elements on the nose. Light bodied and silky, starting to unwind, fine tannins and cherry spice on the palate. Long finish with flavors that linger. The slight funk/Brett is a distraction but otherwise this looks to be a strong 09.

Needs decanting at least two hours Very ripe cherries prominent now, leather notes Long cosmic earthy note to finish Tannins may need more time to integrate Acid balance is good Delicious with roasted lamb and root vegetables Also lovely later to sip in a contemplative mood 🎄

Beautiful aromatics of dark red cherries, also some blue fruit, balsamic notes, minerality/earth, truffle, underwood, spices, cedar, tobacco and cigar. Also some animalic notes. It's medium-full bodied with medium+ acidity and medium+ super silky tannin. Superb length. A fantastic Grands-Echezeaux that is already drinking beautifully right now. We drank this next to the Ponsot Chambertin 2009 that was much more closed.

Medium garnet, crimson, chestnut hue. Expressive and complex nose of red and blue fruit with animalic notes of leather and a touch of musk. Everything remains subtle. Excellent, fresh palate, good volume, elegant, long finish. A grand Pinot indeed. Had the edge over the Georges Noellat 2014 Echezeaux next to it. Can be drunk now due to the forward 2009 vintage. 96-97

Will certainly improve with time given structure, but why wait since it is in excellent balance right now with funk, light cherry fruit, and subtle tannins. A real treat.

Vindredi (Grand Cru (Bellevue, WA)) : Tasted blind. Funky, earthy nose but still quite expressive, lots of stuff going on there. On the body: wow. Elegant, smooth body with a good balance of fruit, tannins, and some acid. Lush fruits with good secondary flavors. A little bit reductive? "Winner" in its flight.

Very young. Mushrooms on the nose and some smokeyness. Some strawberry fruit but also slighty toastet and animallike. The 100% new oak needs to settle a bit.

Some stems, citrus, green oak char, black cherry and some cool aromatic spice elements on the nose. Light bodied, and very tightly wound showing fine tannins and more spice. Long finish with flavors that linger. The oak is troubling as it has a green note to it that is off putting.

K&L Grand Burgundy Tasting (San Francisco) : A bit reduced/sulfur on the nose, great fruit and spices, good funk; palate has great spiciness, huge structure, very young. First palate today that really shows incredible complexity. Superb potential. 95+

More 2009 Burgundies (K&L Wines, Redwood City, California) : Medium dark cherry red color with pale meniscus; graham cracker, tart cherry, cherry tart, oak nose; tight, oak, tart cherry, tart raspberry palate; needs 8 years; medium-plus finish 92+ points (better than the barrel sample I tried earlier in the year, but that oak needs a lot of time to integrate)
