A very passable impersonation of a classy LB Bordeaux. Still plenty left in the tank

Very nice wine with sweet fruit. Cassis, blackberries, cedar, leather and smooth and well integrated tannins. I would not have expected this from the 202 vintage. Enjoy it now.

In the nose warm earthiness, cedar, blackberries, cassis and the typical warm herbal touch I associate with Stellenbosch. On the palate cherries, blackberries, well-integrated but a little woody oak with some fine vanilla and cedar. Slight alcohol heat but no problem at all. Decent length with delicious tobacco tones and lapsang suchong in the aftertaste. Ripe, sweet fruit without being jammy with fine tannins. Old-school South Africa with an extra dose of herb and heat on an otherwise classic Bordeaux …

Very good. Did not make tasting notes. But nice dusty tannins. Good fruit. Very much like a muscular cabernet/bordeaux blend. Better than I was anticipating. I would not call this an over the top new world wine. It seemed to be coming together, much more integrated, than some of the other tasting notes suggest.

The top of the range red. Medium-full bodied this classic mix of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon plus a bit of Merlot and Cabernet Franc weighs in at 14.5%. Bags of black fruit flavours, but it is all a little over-extracted and heavy handed for my liking. Tremendous power and structure, but at the expense of elegance. Although not to my taste (I do like a little bit of subtlety and finesse in my wines) it is still an impressive effort, although …

Too smoky, it was the smell of an ashtray actually. Fruits hiding somewhere behind all wood, unbalanced, short and dry finish. Difficult vintage, 03 was much better when I tasted this a few years. Overpriced.

Very impressed - first time with this, and what a lovely smooth fruity red just developing some complexity - leather, smoke, spice, graphite and cedar. Very easy to drink, and hides the alcohol (14.5%) very well.

Smoky and relatively complex but not particularly to my taste. Plenty of time left.

Good stuff here. Had this 18 months ago and it was fat and chewy - today this was resolved and elegant. These SA wines do age quite fast but dont let that detract from the quality. Nice tangy peppery notes with some vegatal notes - in the mouth good crunchy tannins but gives way to soft fruit with good complexity. A nice evolved colour in the glass. This is ready to go. 2 more years and I think the fruit …

Vergelegen Dinner (Crown Wine Cellars) : Intense nose, a little meat, some fumes, some spice. Quite volatile with pencil later on.

It started of as very smoky, but after 10 minutes in the glass it settled down and reviled a fantastic and balanced wine. Still young with high tanninsand acidity, but it has a nice fruity taste of cassis and leather. And of course some, but not so dominant anymore.

Montreal Offline: Non mainstream wine countries. (Restaurant Bleu Raisin) : Deeeeep ruby red. Very Cab franc nose of green peppers, butter and red fruits. Nice palate of peppery fruits with decent balance and medium finish.
