France 2024; 6/23/2024-6/29/2024 : Amazing depth of flavor, with open fruit. A classic in the making.

La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers - New York NY) : Small glass, brief note. Great nose showing spice and more red fruit than earth. Similar flavors with good weight, great balance.

Strong start with very powerful/typical stems and sugar profile...entrancing aromas that were a little less present in the mouth, and the goodness gradually disappeared over the next 3 hours

Lovely bright red fruit and dark fruit on the nose. Fresh in the mouth with a nice spicy mid palate. This was not as precise as the 1996 and is clearly more ready to drink, but I prefered this flavor profile today.

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Tru - Chicago IL) : Served and tasted blind alongside its 1996 counterpart. Most tasters preferred this vs the 1996, while I had a slight preference the other way. This 1997 had both great spice and ripe red fruit, shockingly fresh and powerful for the vintage. Lush and exciting throughout, I found this slightly less structured and balanced vs what turned out to be the 1996. But both were amazing.

HDH Burgundy Auction (Chicago, IL) : Served blind alongside the 1996. This had more pronounced ripe fruit notes on the nose (which I really should have picked out correctly). The palate has very lovely acidity, no sur-maturite, lovely acid and bright fruit. More accessible than the sterner and intellectual 1996, but it's very hard to pick a favourite between the two (though if pressed, I'll go with the 1996).

Classic Dujac nose. Blinded, fooled no one. Stemmy nose. Nice spice. Red fruits. Palate had spice, earth, still some unresolved tannins. A well built 97.

Pitting against the Musigny, Beze and Richebourg, the Bonnes Mares is relatively less appealing. More floral aroma here and appeared to stand between the Musigny and Richebourg. Similar feel in mouth but lack strength, finish bit short, but very enjoyable.

La Paulee "Warm-up" Dinner (Spruce and RN74 - San Francisco CA) : Spicy, whole cluster perfume to start. Lush, ripe black fruit to start on palate with good spice. Moderate length. Probably at its peak today.

Tasted blind, this wine had a medium deep red center with light red rims. The high-intensity nose featured black cherries, soil, brown spice, and a hint of Provencal herbs. It was medium bodied in the mouth with excellent richness and firm acidity. However, it seemed a bit restrained and immature. It should add a point or two with an additional 5 to 10 years of bottle age.

WOW! This is clearly two notches up against the Echezeaux. Highly aromatic with red flower and violet, focus red and dark cherry fruits with hint of austerity and rustiness core that expand the aromatic spectrum nicely with secondary flavors of earthy mushroom. This too very juicy and delicious that is richer and more concentrated. The intense mid palate is very complex and fresh. The wine getting rounder and gaining more weight with coffee aromas after some aeration and the fine, …

New wine bar in town (Off Bukit Timah Road) : This was so much younger to the echezeaux, also much more musculine definitely a class up. The nose was not so expressive initially but after about 1 hour, it began to bloom into a very good wine, with flowers and fruits and the finished is also very good. Excellent stuff.

Just a really delicious pinot with lovely dark cherry and blueberry fruit. Medium-bodied and smooth with the classic Dujac signature of cherry creme. Finishes complex with a beautiful fine concentration. A perfectly balanced wine that is quite drinkable tonight but yet to develop much in the way of secondary flavors but I love the way its drinking right now. Out of magnum - London

Bonnes-Mares to me is a bit like Antony from Antony and The Johnsons, you're not quite sure if its a boy or a girl but when it sings a thing of great beauty is emitted. This started off with a wonderful ethereal, sweet perfume coupled with notes of pine needle sap, dark cherries, menthol, moss, hung game and earth. The palate is plush velvet that has been hammered down with iron nails. With air it becomes evident that the sweet …
