Château Saint-Nicolas Fronsac

This wine pours medium ruby in the glass. Faint bricking toward the rim, but relatively youthful considering the age. The nose here is of celery seed, gravel, plum, cedar, tobacco, worn leather, violet, and dark cherry. The palate enters on gravelly plum, with medium minus tannin and medium acid. Fruit is fading and it’s got some spice notes on the finish. Overall a nice experience.

Average. Nothing of note

Kind of flat. Cork was in fantastic shape and bottle seems well preserved, but slight red fruit, some smooth tannin, faint forest floor on the nose, but almost nothing on the palate. slightly watery. Took a flier on value and it is interesting to taste something this old, but ultimately maybe just past its window. Inoffensive.

A disconnect between the nose and body. Smells wonderful, aged, enticing but the lack of depth is disappointing. Reaching the end of its life.

Pours medium ruby...not a tonne of bricking Nose is so typical aged bordeaux....cedar, leather, graphite, earth, mulch alongside pretty cherry, cassis and blackcurrant notes. Palate is equally pretty though with a touch less nuance...here is where you see the difference in pedigree from a classed growth....the depth of flavour and intensity just are not in the same league. Finish is medium with limited complexity. The nose really steals the show for me on this wine....despite and criticism....this is awesome wine …
